I bought this access point for use in my home. The way my house is set up, the internet comes in to the downstairs, into a corner of the house. The house is older and everything is finished, so it's not the easiest thing to put our wireless router anywhere that gives coverage to the entire house. Because of this, my bedroom is a Wi-Fi dead zone. I do have a Cat5e cable run to the upstairs and connected to a switch, which provides network connection to our entertainment center. I have placed this access point on the entertainment center, and it provides good reception to our bedroom on the other side of our 1500 square foot house. Once I was able to access the setup menu, things were simple and I was able to configure the access point to my liking.

Setup, however, was a bit tricky. First off, I'm not a network professional, but I do consider myself above average in networking knowledge. I have a small home network with a NAS box, a desktop PC, two laptops, a smart TV, networked sound bar, Xbox one, Chromecast, a couple tablets and a couple of phones connected to it off and on. I've been able to set up all these devices myself with little difficulty. After unboxing this access point, I connected it like the instructions directed, and then I opened my browser on my desktop PC (which I had plugged directly into the access point) and directed it to the device's default network address, 192.168.0.100. Unfortunately, my browser couldn't find anything there. I still had internet access and I was able to use the access point as set up out of the box to access the internet with my phone wirelessly, too. I knew the access point was working, I just couldn't get to the setup page. It turns out that my router (an ASUS RT-AC68U) has a default address of 192.168.1.1.

Took a chance on a buying a new product.

Couple things:

If your LAN is configured as a Class A (10.x.x.x) IP scheme then be sure to have a device ready with a class C (192.168.x.x) scheme. The device ships with the configuration IP as 192.168.0.100, you will not be able to reach the admin app if you don't reset your devices IP.

The product specs claim that this access point supports 1.2 gbps. A cleverly deceptive claim. The 802.11ac band supports up to 837 mbps and the 802.11n band supports 300mpbs for A COMBINED speed of 1.2gbps. Hey my Ford Focus probably goes 100mph, doesn't mean 10 of them can go 1000 mph. I would have rated this product 5 stars for not this deception.

I recommend getting Netgear's network diagnostic for andoroid/iOS. Using this tool, I was able to verify 700mbps in areas close to the access point.

The product works very well. It eliminated the dead spots in my house and is delivering as much as 90 Mbps wifi. However, the setup instructions were inadequate. There were no mac specific instructions related to what to do if your browser would not load the configuration page. I finally found instructions on a competitors website. I don't think you'll have any problems if your router is also from netgear, but mine wasn't.

This Access Point ships preset with the inconvenient fixed IP address of 192.168.0.100. It took me about 2 hours to set up only because I tried several things before it dawned on me to connect to an old router and change the WAC104 to a dynamic IP address setting. This is what worked for me:
1. (*) Reset the IP address of an old router to 192.168.0.1
2. Change the router's Starting and Ending IP address range to include 192.168.0.100
3. Connect the WAC104 to one of the router Ethernet ports
4. Connect a PC/laptop to one of the WAC104 Ethernet ports (Wi-Fi should also work, but an Ethernet connection is often quicker)
5. Log into the WAC104 web admin interface (http://192.168.0.100)
6. Under Advanced Setup, select "Get dynamically from existing router." This will allow your router to choose an IP address for the WAC104. Click the "Apply" button and give the device about 30 sec to 1 min. to apply the new setting. I recommend checking for WAC104 firmware updates at this point.
7. The WAC104 is now be ready to connected to your router to serve as a wired or wireless Access Point (AP)
8. If you need to access the WAC104 admin web interface, check your router's "Attached Devices" table for the IP address assigned to the WAC104, then use that IP address (instead of 192.168.0.100)
*If you don’t have an old router, you can change the IP address and IP address range of the router that is currently in use, but ensure that that you restore your IP settings or some of your network devices may no longer work, especially if they have fixed IP addresses. Also do this while your network is not in use.

The Mickey-Mouse instructions included in the box don't mention the need to reconfigure the network adapter on your computer before you can access the setup menu on this product. Until you go to their chat line for help or download the "REAL" 72-page instruction manual, you're just wasting your time.

My humor improved when I saw the result. By replacing my old 11bg wireless AP, my download speed tripled.

Setting up a wireless access point is more difficult than setting up a router. Netgear's instructions are not helpful. Nice product though.
