If you need 100% speed, you do have alternatives:
1. This devices supports Access Point mode. Simply move slider from Extender to Access Point, connect LAN cable to this device and then use same SSID and password for WiFi.
2. If you don't want to spend time laying LAN cable, you can use one band (2.4 GHz) to communicate with router and other one (5 GHz) to communicate with devices. This can be problematic because most of the devices support only 2.4 GHz... and 5 GHz band signal will tie you closer to router.
3. Finally, you can try with other devices like TP-LINK AV500 that utilize powerline:
In my case, this product was the best option because even with 50% dropdown in communication I get 15 MBit/s Internet (instead of 30 MBit/s Internet). And when I have time to spare I'll connect it with LAN cable. On the other hand, TP-LINK AV500 would require me to connect WiFi router / buy WiFi add-on at endpoint (since it is powerline + LAN).
So, if you have problems with WiFi coverage, this is probably the BEST solution for you. If you need to connect just one device using LAN cable in some remote place in your home, powerline may work (it depends on how your power lines are installed, I had really bad experience with powerline tech).
Just whatever you do, do not buy extra antennas for your router. I've left two detailed reviews on products that I've tried out and their price ($20+) is way too much for what they offer. Here are the reviews I mention, they contain more recommendations on EX6100:
Asus WL-ANT-157 Antenna:
3 x 9dBi 2.4GHz 5GHz Dual Band WiFi RP-SMA Antenna:
Speaking of price, another VERY important point - buy REFURBISHED EX6100 (~$40). Devices like this are highly unlikely to malfunction - because of low heat generation and no mechanical parts. If they work within 90 days (refurbished guarantee period)... it's highly likely they'll work for years without problems.
Let that be it for this review. If you have any questions, feel free to leave comment and I'll try to answer. For example, I see few reviews mention that EX6100 doesn't allow you to setup same SSID/password as your primary network, and have your devices autoswitch. That's simply untrue - you can easily setup same SSID/password in EX6100 administration. Finally, if this review helped you, I would appreciate marking it as helpful. Whatever you decide, good luck with your WiFi network!
I didn't expect much as I had tried different ways to extend wifi range to a detached building about 150-200 ft away. All have proved not effective as advertised and not worth using. My laptop shows a signal so weak it was actually unusable. The Netgear AC1200 was a breeze to set up. Connect a cat5 between the AC1200 and your computer, not a router but straight from the pc to the AC1200, enter the setup address in your browser, it will ID an avail network, enter the password and you're done.
I took it to the building, changed my network to the AC1200 and bam 100% sig strength.
BUY ONE, IT WORKS
If I as a 30 year computer pro can not get it to work out of the box, imagine your problems! Total disaster.. find something better..
In that time, it cut out a grand total of once (hence the four star instead of five). I have no idea why. But I simply unplugged and replugged. Fixed it. Apart from that it has worked fine. So, I'm not sure what the other guys were talking about.
Signal strength and data speed are great. No lag that I can detect from my central system. A heck of a lot cheaper than some of the other systems. Some were over $300. And I still can't read anything in their descriptions about what they do that this doesn't.
Bottom line is that it is a pretty good product for a great price.
I am so very glad I did; it has boosted the wifi speed from 90 kbps to 2.3 Mbps.
Whereas before it took me a solid 20 seconds to load a regular webpage, I can now stream Netflix with no issues whatsoever.

To the manufacturer, have FastLane enabled by default or give users the option to install it when they are setting up the wifi extender for the first time. At the very least, mention it in your product manual.
I can imagine a lot of customers have returned this product by mistake because they thought it was not functioning very well... OR they blame NBN! :)
good good product
I tried calling customer service (which they charge you for after 90 days) and they listened to what I said and tried to make me pay $49.99 for "technical assistance". I just told them I would just throw it out if that was the case as that's half the price of a new one. They then waived the fee but then proceeded to walk me through a factory reset - which I just told him I had done multiple times.
In the end the service rep said he would have someone contact me to have it replaced as he wasn't allowed to do that. Then after a couple business days I received an email from netgear saying my ticket was going to be closed because I have no had any activity on it.
I have been emailing them every couple days on the support ticket asking when someone will get back to me to replace it but with no response.
Sure it works great when it does work but if you have any problems then you might as well just use it as a paper weight. I would look elsewhere.
The setup was pretty straightforward and it does extend the wifi, just very disappointed that the seller was not forthcoming in stating that an adaptor is required and included.
The only thing wrong with it is that it died at 4 years. By died I mean you can't access it in any way and can't reset it. Still not bad for a device I had running 24/7 for years.
In spite of that, my response to it dying was to buy their updated model the EX7000. If you think you need it to last for longer than mine did you could always just get an extended warranty and not worry about it, but personally I'm happy to update my Internet connected equipment after that long anyway.
our house is quite long, the modem is at the front and the lounge and TV is at the back, which is about 25m away with many walls in between.
I found that placing this in the room over from the modem gave it a really strong connection to the modem, and it pushes that through the rest of the house
before: TV dropped out regularly, bedroom ipad struggled to connect, download from bedroom was ~ 800KB/s
after: TV connects to both ranges, bedroom always connects, download from bedroom = 8MB/s
definitely works. Would recommend
Set up instructions are in Chinese so obviously not meant for Australian market. Adapter at back makes it stick out from the wall a lot.
