For background, I have also reviewed the Sony GoogleTV NSZ-GS7, which I found to be one of the best media players I have used to date. The Prime is part of Netgear's recent foray into media players, and competes directly with the Sony GoogleTV. My personal number one feature that I'm looking for in a media player is the Slingbox application "SlingPlayer" as a replacement for Slingmedia's now discontinued SlingCatcher, which is still held as the gold standard for Slingbox media playback on home theater systems. However, clearly this box has far more capabilities beyond Slingbox connectivity. Among the most popular "channels" available include: Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, HBO Go. GoogleTV also provides the Chrome internet browser and support for Flash playback. There is also access to GooglePlay's app store which adds a plethora of capabilities familar to many android users.

Setup & Configuration
Setup was basically issue-less just following the on-screen directions. The only trouble I had was the setup of the IR blaster for my Comcast Set-top box. The blaster itself is the LED-on-a-string style that you stick in front of your STB IR eye. This design is somewhat outdated as many modern boxes(including the Sony rival NSZ-GS7) now have integrated blasters, which allow for cleaner looking setups. Additionally, this single blaster is used for 2 devices (TV and STB). My blaster controlled both from one location, but depending on your equipment arrangement, this could potentially be an issue. The blaster setup asks for box type, manufacturer and model. I have a Pace RNG110 cable tuner from Comcast, the closest selection I could find was Cable, IPTV (is this the same as cable?) and Pace, but my RNG110 was not listed.

Update 2/28/14-Still stand by my initial 5 star review after two months! I have had NO problems at all with this product and use it everyday. Just wish people writing negative reviews to do their homework. The remote is very good and functional not great but nothing to complain about. It only unpaired the one time after initial setup, never happened again.Complaints about browsing or any other connectivity issues should make sure they have the appropriate bandwidth internet connection and a high speed dual band router should resolve any of those issues. Very good product. Would recommend to anyone!

Just received my GTV100 a few days ago and it is a terrific device but you must understand what you are getting and what your needs are. I already have an LG 3D Google TV and I run DLNA server software on my PC's which makes all of my media streamable across my network. On my Google TV I run Avia which is an Android DLNA receiver and renderer, so there is no content that I can't stream and enjoy on my TV and Home Theater. So my reason for purchasing this unit was to give family members the capabilities that I had without spending ridiculous amounts of money. After studying all the well known devices this one is far superior in capabilities to them ALL, IF you understand what you are doing. First thing I want to address is all the people that report it crashing or locking up. Here's the deal and it's kind of Netgears fault for not documenting this in the materials received. I set up the unit with no problem at all, very simple and intuitive. I then tested all the apps..Netflix,MyMedia(Avia),AmazonVideo and had no problems. I left the unit unattended for about an hour on the Home page, but when I tried to use the remote the unit did not respond at all.

I truly do not understand why people have so many issues with this product. It seems to me most were looking for a specific feature or attribute and did not find it, therefore the entire product is bad. I wish there was tabbed browsing support. That does not diminish in any way, shape, or form the ingenuity of the browser itself. I have NEVER had an issue with crashing, like some are complaining about, and even at my 2.0mbps connection I can stream FHD video.

I will admit the remote leaves something to be desired......at first. Once you get used to the trackpad and the keyboard you realise they are actually very intuitive and aligned in the best possible way. As to the lack of Amazon Prime support: its like that across the board for android devices. Complain to Amazon, not the manufacturers.

THe bottom line is if you want a slick interface to access all your online streaming services, a web browser, and a passthrough for live TV/Cable, this is the top. As long as you're willing to give it a try.

And, since I haven't seen anyone talk about this yet: the PrimeTime app LITERALLY tells you which provider will give you the cheapest price, regardless if its the Play store or not. Props to netgear, and props to google.

I began to loathe this product, almost immediately after the installation was complete. I was replacing a Logitech Revue, so I had some experience with Google TV, but when you pine for the days of the Revue, you know there's a major problem. The text describing a 1-star review is perfect: I hate it.

First, I realized that the remote had no built-in way to control my DirecTV DVR, and required a IR blaster to be attached... I groaned, but thought maybe this wouldn't be too bad.

Second, and the major issue I had with this device, was that the remote is awful. I read some reviews, but clearly didn't take them seriously enough, because OH MY was the touch pad clearly not tested by humans. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't. There didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason behind this behavior. I would "rub" it to get it to activate, but that takes a few seconds at least. Annoying.

Lastly, and maybe this is the fault of the OS itself... but the same crashes of web browser plug-ins took place, just like what happened with my Revue. Anything that used Flash was a joke. The performance was bad, and the reliability was worse. I was lucky if I could get through an episode on Amazon VOD, but swap away to another application and come back again, usually resulted with a crash in the ensuing minutes.

Frankly, I can't believe the person at Netgear who was responsible for this wasn't canned. Absolutely abysmal product, and an absolute disgrace that they released it in this fashion. I couldn't return it to Amazon fast enough. Please, do yourself a favor, do not purchase this device.
