I purchased this router to replace a wireless router that was several years old. I also have a Netgear Universal Range extender, WN3000RP, as we need to cover a rather large area. After installation I was having problems with three wireless devices, a desktop, tablet and phone. The desktop had trouble making a wireless connection, while the tablet and phone had trouble maintaining a connection. After trying to troubleshoot this on my own, I finally called Netgear's tech support number. After over 10 minutes of a hard sell for their extended warranty ($129 for an additional year!), I was finally forwarded to a tech who would help me. They also tried to sell me the extended warranty, but weren't quite as insistent as the first person. I ended up changing two settings at the routerlogin.net site. Once I explained my problem they knew exactly what needed to be done and it was fixed inside of 5 minutes, and the connections have been absolutely perfect since then for all devices, including the range extender. Just in case you have the same issues, here is what they instructed me to change: In the Advanced tab, under wireless setup, change the SSID channel from 'auto' to 11, and apply. Then in the WAN setup, change the MTU size from 1500 to 1400 and apply. Simple. It would have been much better to have more specific instructions from the beginning regarding these settings, but in the long run it was fixed rather quickly.

With the router that came with my high speed internet service, I had been having sporadic coverage in most of my house including a "weak" signal on my internet enabled TV in the very next room. Streaming movies and even music was hit and miss. I considered getting a range extender but as we all know, the chain is only as strong as the weakest link. After reading several reviews and product specs, I narrowed my search to the 6200. I was a bit concerned about the setup, but it truly was as easy as NETGEAR claims. I was up and running, two minutes tops. Phones, tablets, and TVs were all connected with ease. Then came the range test. The TV went from "weak" to "STRONG" and I'm no longer tethered to the lower floor of my house while working from home. I maintained a consistent signal upstairs, downstairs, and outside. Lastly, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the USB ReadySHARE feature. Simply plug in your external media drive and have instant access to all of your office bound content on all of your other devices operating on your wireless network. Starting with this device before adding to my home network with other devices was definitely the right choice as a range extender is now nonessential. Awesome product.

I've been using home routers since I had cable broadband in 1996. I've used an old PC running Linux, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, Linksys (several, including the venerable WRT54G), generic ones provided by the service provider such as 2Wire, even a small Asus pocket model when traveling (it can run in AP mode providing wireless in hotels that has wired only Internet). Over time I've come to look for various features in routers. This one is seriously feature rich.

If you're looking at this, you've probably already looked at the R6300, the big brother of this one. There are two main differences - the R6300 supports 3 simultaneous streams, and has 2 USB ports.

Having 3 simultaneous streams means that the total amount of wireless traffic at any one time can be higher. Note that unless your device (for example, notebook) has 3 antennas and can support 3 simultaneous streams as well, it will NOT be faster. Most consumer devices have only 1 or 2 antennas. Still, it is worth noting that the price premium is not large between these two models - about $20 the last time I checked. That's only slightly above 10% at the retail price.

Both models are very angular - there are no curves on this unit, all straight lines and flat surfaces. They're also physically rather large. The "NETGEAR" in the middle lights up fairly brightly, and it doesn't look like there's any way to turn it off. There are dimmer indicator lights along the bottom edge.

OK, now that we have that out of the way, let's take a look at the features of this router. I'm not going to cover every single feature, since you're better off reading the user manual if you want that information. I'll touch on what I feel is important with this router.

1. Gigabit ports for wired Ethernet.

I have had this router for a little over a year and up until last week I was pretty happy with it.

Then it "Spazzed out". I tried for several hours to reset this stupid thing with no luck. So I call the tech support #, After waiting on hold for 25+ minutes my call is answered by some guy in India.

Good news... He can help me. Bad news I need to sign up for a service plan that costs $200. What this router only cost $120? I keep asking and find out about a 6 month service plan for $80. I need this thing to work because I have work to do and need it to do that work. So I give him my credit card.

He walks me through the same reset I have been trying for hours. Only hold the button for 60 seconds instead of 6 as was printed in the manual. Well it works now. And that extra 54 seconds just cost me $80.

I feel like Netgear is using tech support as way to squeeze extra cash out of their customers. In the future I will not be their customer as I will never buy another one of their products.
