The bad news is that powerline networking doesn't work at all for some houses. It seems to be something related to the circuit breaker, though I haven't heard of a way to know ahead of time if they will work for you. Sometimes they'll work for one side of the house but not the other. I've used mine in an apartment and a townhome. You'll have to try them to find out.
Of course, these aren't as good as wiring your whole house with Cat5. In most houses, this is completely impractical or very expensive.
I've used five of these specific adapters without any problems. Two went with a former roommate, but I'm currently using three. No complaints at all!
I plugged in the first two--the base and a remote PC--entered a password in the Netgear utility on my iMac. And instantly the other iMac connected, no trouble, no hiccups. And far faster than the WiFi connection the remote iMac was on.
It was instant, trouble-free, and fast.
