I purchased this camera to help me keep track of my mother who had a stroke. She gets up in the middle of the night and want to be able to make sure she stays safe. I purchased this camera with that in mind.
I took it out of the box and set it up. We've run it through our tests and we couldn't be more pleased with the value we will get.
Thank you for a great product at a great price!
I wrote this before getting results of one night viewing.
Revised review. The program doesn't work right set to record movement 00:00 to 07:00. The camera records motion at 13:00 08:00 and any time. Also the camera is not as good as.my cheaper camera at night time.
Don't buy company ignores any request for support. It is not capable of being set for daylight saving time and records 1 hour off. Will return.
I spent hours trying to get the cameras to be recognized by the Smart home app. Seriously, I must have gone through the sequence outlined in the manual and shown in their "help video" a minimum of 50 times on the 4 cameras. I even removed and reloaded the APP on each device at least 3 times per device, in case there was some issue with the download. It didn't change the ultimate result.
Just so you know, the "help video" is a nearly 7 minute demonstration of how to set the cameras up, but not one spoken word. The only sound in the entire video is either the camera beeping or the noise when unpacking the camera. As shown in the video, it sure looks simple. I replicated every step shown in the video identically and the product manual, to the extent the directions apply, with each of the frustrating and ultimately futile attempts.
I tried the set up on both Apple and Android products. Everything went along until the point where the camera is supposed to be recognized by the app after scanning the QR code. The phones and the I Pad would go through the process and give me a fault code every time but once. After trying at the friends to set this up for several hours, I packed everything home and tried on my WIFI network, with an android phone and finally, after more than a dozen attempts, I was able to get one of the cameras to work, briefly. I did nothing different than I had done the dozens of times before, both at this and the other location, but that time it worked, briefly.
I packed everything up and went back to my friends and once again, I was unable to get the cameras to work. A couple of points I would like to point out about the "Help Video", their 24 hour tech service, their manual and their website for the camera brand.
First, a nearly 7 minute video demonstrating the process was disappointing as a "Help Video" as I mentioned, there isn't a spoken word the entire time. It's the companies portable video type recording of someone setting the camera up. Sure, it appears easy but it didn't work for me. No suggestions on what to do when my results were not the same as those demonstrated. Nothing, no help links, it just ends, in silence, the same silence which existed the entire video other than the noises of the camera box being opened. I would call this a "Demonstration Video", not a "Help Video". Maybe that's why it had less than 50 viewings on YouTube when I watched it.
I really wish these companies would spend the time and a couple of bucks and have the English language "manuals" written by someone who's primary language is in fact, English. This would dramatically improve the manual. Also, there are several "Important Reminders" in the manual and app instructions which mention that "You must have rapidly flashing lights, 2 per second, before pairing the device". However, the device has no "pairing lights", so much for that important fact. Imagine the time wasted looking for pairing lights that don't exist when I am unable to pair the cameras to the WIFI network.
I was told when I inquired why such emphasis is placed on something as "essential for connection" when the product doesn't even have the pairing lights. Answer, basically the instructions "cover a lot of different devices". When you are selling cameras, make the instructions for connection SPECIFIC TO THE CAMERA being sold, not devices which aren't included. That's just sloppy editing of the manual when copying and pasting from other sources.
One section about issues connecting actually suggested "reading the information above the connection section" for help......What? First, there is no connection section and if you were to find one, why would you read the material "above it" for assistance? Such language confusion and referring to their "Privacy Police" when they mean Policy is unnecessarily frustrating. When I tried to reach the 24 hour help, the help apparently is available 9 to 5 pm Central time via email only. Hey, I get it, I don't want to be available 24 hours either, but on the cameras website, it says "Business Hours 9am to 5pm", right beneath the portion of the website which promotes "24 hour technical assistance".
Again, conflicting information. By the way, there isn't a link on the website which goes anywhere or does anything.
The "contact us" and "Help Button", etc. do nothing on their camera brand website. No phone numbers, nothing. There is a map to some place in the Chicago area, for what its worth should you want to drop by and it appears to be a residential area......
My request for assistance via email was responded to 12 hours later and although I detailed the problem, the response was "read manual, watch video." So I responded and finally did get a dialog to some extent and the suggestion was that the 2.4ghz 5ghz Xfinity Modem this family has used for 3 years is "Not a modem they have ever heard of". They asked me to provide a link to the modem after I confirmed the password wasn't an issue, etc. Essentially, the next step was to buy a new Wifi router, but everything else works fine and at that point, I simply had spent far too much time on something which sure appears simple and sadly, didn't turn out to be.
I don't know if the issue was the App or if the cameras have some defect, but my experience with these cameras was not a happy ending one. When I told the tech support person I was simply going to return the cameras as I had wasted enough time trying to get them to work with only brief results on one camera, they replied they were working to make the cameras better.
I truly wanted to post a satisfied review of these cameras and confirm what the other positive reviews had said. But when I was unable to get the cameras to work on two entirely unrelated WIFI systems which work flawlessly with everything else I have set up and when I can't get them to work on either an Apple phone, an I Pad or an Android phone, something is wrong. My friends desperately need such a camera system to help them care for this relative. I replicated the set up to the letter on these cameras and nothing. Every single time, I would get a "Device Installation Time out".
Disappointed, to say the least. And the failure to connect wasn't for the lack of trying. I tried over 50 times on the 4 cameras, two different WIFI networks which are unrelated, miles apart and every other device used works flawlessly. Android phone, Apple Phone, IPad. Could not get them to work. I hope that somehow, I received 4 defective cameras, but the odds of that seem very unlikely. As a result, this is the review of my actual results.................I sincerely wish the story had a happy ending as it would have been very helpful for my friends. Sadly, that wasn't what happened.
