"An unforgettable read! Constant danger, threat of injury and death interplay with faith, hope and love throughout the book." - Deborah Gafford, Author of Highland Historical Romances and Romantic Comedies
"Another great read by Dorothy Wiley. A great second book in the series and I look forward to reading the next and final book, Whispering Hills of Love, William and Kelly's story. I also look forward to reading any other books this author pens if this is her caliber of writing as shown to us in the first two books of her series." - JoAnne at Romancing the Book
"Nothing mindlessly emotional here! I don't usually read romance novels, but Ms Wiley's is fresh, unblinkingly gritty, and...reads like a classic American adventure story. Two strong, independent characters discover that the need to be together is greater than the forces conspiring to keep them apart."- Professor C.W.

Sam Wyllie an ex Captain in the Revolutionary War is a strong dark and dangerous man home from the war fighting inner battles that no one knows of. Demons that haunt his dreams and his days that he cannot escape. He travels with his family to the wilds of Kentucky in search of a better life, land that they can build their dreams on, raise cattle, and raise their families. What he finds is danger as well as untold beauty as he and his family struggle across a wild untamed land.
Catherine a Boston proper lady is traveling with the Wiley family toward a better life in the wild land of Kentucky. She is drawn to Sam the oldest of the brothers, his strength, and the love he has for his family, his protective nature, and these are all things that she didn’t have with her husband and qualities in a man that she longs for. It’s not been that long since she lost her husband on this untamed trail, but as their marriage was an arranged and loveless marriage, she is ready to find love. A true everlasting love.
This book is the second the Wilderness series and a stand alone, however it does not give you a lot of details from the first book, so I would recommend that you start at the beginning of this series so you know the whole story of the characters, it will make this second book all the more interesting.
This author has definitely done her research and she seems to be well educated on the trials and hardships that would befall people in the time period traveling across a wild and harsh land to find a better way of life in the west. Her main characters are strong in mind and body and they are very family oriented. Of course the book has its villains that are mean to the core and twists and turns that will have you glued to the pages.
There is love, deep sadness, hope, humor, action, you name it this book has it as did the first in the series. There were times I laughed out loud, and then there were parts in the book where I literally had tears from the sadness. I love the author’s style of writing; it’s clean, easy to read and moves at a good pace. The editing was outstanding; I didn’t see anything that really took away from the book at all, no hang-ups.
I will definitely continue with this series and this is and has become one of my favorite authors. I would definitely recommend the series to readers of any age. What little bit of intimacy there is in the book it’s very cleanly written. I think what grabs me the most in the story is the closeness of the family and their friends. The characters just seem to come alive in your mind’s eye, you can see the feel their emotions, their hardships and this is what makes it such a heartfelt story.
Please, do yourself a huge favor and read this series. You will not regret it.
I don't usually read romance novels, but Ms Wiley's is fresh, unblinkingly gritty, and highly readable. Take a look; you're not likely to be disappointed by a romance novel that reads like a classic American adventure story. Two strong, independent characters evidently are about to discover that the need to be together is greater than the forces conspiring to keep them apart.
