Ideal for trimming hedges, shrubs and bushes, this electric hedge trimmer from Black & Decker combines the convenience of cordless operation with the longlasting power of an 18-volt NiCad battery (included, along with compatible charger) for efficient, reliable performance. The NHT518-1 trims up to 1,200 square feet of hedge on just one charge, and features pre-hardened, machined-steel, dual action blades for exceptional durability without excessive vibration. Additionally, the extended blade measures 22 inches for level cuts, and a shearing blade gets the job done at an impressive rate when handling branches up to 3/4-inch thick. A durable plastic body guards against wear and tear, and a lock-off switch helps prevent unintended start-ups.See all Product description

I'm knocking this down to two stars because of the battery issue. A replacement costs about $35 and you can't expect it to last longer then a dozen uses.
Sept.26/16: I'm bumping this up to 4 stars, darn it! I really like it and it's lasted long. Heck, it cuts barbed wire! It really makes trimming easy and fast. The problem is the battery life not the trimmer itself. One star for the battery life and four for the actual trimmer.
As other reviewers have pointed out there hedger cannot really cut through 3/4 inch branches and that is why I did not give it the full 5 stars. The unit is very light weight and can easily be lifted with 1 hand. It was a little noisier than I had expected, but very effective at what it is meant to do.
The 18v battery lasts a good 25 minutes. The charger included with the packaging takes 15-18 hours for a full charge. In the packaging I found a promotional offer from Black & Decker to purchase a 1 hour quick charger frm bdchargeroffer. The 1 hour charger has made my life so much easier.
I bought the 18v hedger along with the 18v hard surface sweeper and am very happy with my purchases.
Finally, since I also have the B&D Aligator lopper and pole saw which use the same 18v battery, 3 batteries gives me maximum versatility.
I debated whether to get the Worx brand but went with the Black & Decker because of better reviews. Have used this trimmer for two months now and love the freedom it provides!!! No more lugging out the 75 foot extension cord and hauling it all around the front and back yard, plugging it in here, there & everywhere. Trimming trees & hedges is SO much less of a chore now that I've gone cordless. I have about 10 smaller pine trees, numerous low shrubs, several long rows of hedges and a few other assorted plants in the yard that I like to keep trimmed. Because I can whip this baby out whenever the urge hits to shape things up, I might do a few shrubs one day, and maybe the hedges the following week and nothing gets overgrown or out of control. Plenty of power to get the job done and because it's cordless, it is much easier, and safer (!) to maneuver up, down and all around any of the greenery.
I would like to add that I'm a woman in my early 50s & slightly over 5 feet tall, and find this tool to be the perfect size. It isn't too heavy, bulky or cumbersome. Overall, this is one of the smarter purchases I've made.
