i run 8 miles daily, 4 miles up rising to 3,200 ft, 4 miles down, same de-elevation. 6 times per week.
this creates tremendous wear on the sole. my other running shoes wore out (lost of thread wear) after three months (450 miles)
the Alvord 10 lasted about 5 months (750 miles)
that is 300 more miles than other shoes.
additionally, the rubber delivers good traction, especially good for running on wet slippery pavement.

the only negative of this shoe: poor aesthetics. i only wear it for my run.

I've owned these since November 2012 and wear them almost daily . I was a bit sceptical about getting a Nike pair of trail runners rather than vibram or merrel, but I'm pleased I got these. Every time I look down at them it amazes me how good they look after what I've put them through. They have gotten muddy wet scratched scuffed and scraped even poked with various life corners and peaks. The colors of the fabrics still look incredibly clean and bright . The entire shoe has a snake skin like texture not shown in pictures, this detail makes them look great. I wear these with tactical pants blue jeans and even shorts they don't feel to big and they feel super comfortable. Now as far as the trail running its great the sole is thick and cushioned in all the places you would expect. It honesltly feels like a durable quality shoe and it looks great. I was scared it was going to look like a mundane pair of black nikes but all the small athestics and details make them look elegant yet rugged and durable .

1/18/2013 (see 7/2013 update below) - I originally bought these in a local department store - the problem I had was my fat feet - I am a size 12 or 13 triple Wide or what is better known as a 12or13EEE. The ones I got at the store were only a 13D so after 1 day of wearing them around the house I just couldn't take it anymore.

The ones I bought from Amazon are a 13EEEE width and they are still slightly snug so be aware that they could run a little small.

The front toe box is, well, very boxy, so there is plenty of toe space for those who don't like their toes all bunched together in a pointy shoe.

The platform is incredibly stiff and flat so if you are looking for a softer feel this isn't the shoe for you.

The construction seems to be of high quality but there is an issue in the interior. The tongue is held its entire length by a strap on either side. For me this means almost always catching my toes on the leading edge of this strap while putting on the shoe.

7/15/2013 It is now just over 6 months later - I have been wearing these almost every evening after work and most of the weekend. The shoe foundation has softened up but not to the point where I need to replace them.

The shoe is very comfortable and rugged. I am shocked how good this foot feels. I will use the shoe for cross training mostly. Great investment.

My biggest problem with running shoes is they only look acceptable when new. For some reason white is either the dominant or accent color, once that is dirty, the shoes look dirty. Alvords are available in black and dark gray colors and are always acceptable for my "working management" look.

They also fit me and are comfortable after a 16 hour day.

As a runner i depend on good shoes for long distances and short fast pace sprinting distances. Nike air Alvord was a brand that i depended on and was the only shoe i kept buying after a few months of use because it helped me pass my runs. I also almost had flat feet so this shoe was the perfect brand for me.

However.... I noticed alvords has lots its quality ever since nike air alvords 10 came out. If you do a some research you'll see they are using less material and crap quality materials to make the shoe. Ever since i ran with this shoe, it has given me calluses/corns on my toe nonstop... Also it took awhile to break in these shoes. It was scratching the back of my ankles, so i had to manually stretch them by hand..

Over the years i bought 7,8,9 alvords but 10 isnt what it use to be anymore.... I been using the same size too over the generations, do not buy it....

Other reviewers strongly insist this shoe is not as wide as advertised. Maybe. But it's definitely wider than any other pair of athletic shoes I've ever owned. I could probably have come down a half size. But I went out and got some insoles and they're working out just fine. I don't remember ever having shoes with loops instead of eyelets. You can't lace these up very tight. But I've gotten used the looser fit and now I think it may even be better for circulation.

My only gripe with these shoes is the insole. It's too thin to provide adequate cushion. The first thing I do with these shoes is rip the insole out and replace it with a gel type. After that the shoe is perfect. Light weight, sturdy, and affordable. I'm on my 3rd pair, I love them. I'm a UPS driver and I put some serious wear and tear on shoes. These shoes really hold up well, lasting longer than other shoes I've owned in the past. And they reduce aches and pain in my feet.
