I bought this a year or so after it came out, and have listened to it many times (particularly when I used to have an hour's commute to work). If you are a fan of the NIV and are looking for an audio Bible, then this is definitely a MUST have version. Here are some general observations for those considering it:

1) Audio Quality - The audio quality is excellent. The narration is always clear, and there are no perceivable background hisses or other distracting sounds. 5 out of 5.

2) Background Music - The background music plays intermittently, and is not distracting. When I first listened to this Bible, I was concerned that the music would be tiresome or overpower the narration, but it does not (in my opinion). There are only one or two places where the music seems to get a bit loud compared to the narration, but they are short sections and overall don't distract from the message. 4 out of 5.

3) Narrators - This audio Bible is narrated by a cast of readers large enough to keep the voices fresh, while small enough to recognize when someone you heard reading one character is also reading another (for example, the angel sent to rescue Lot and Joseph are read by the same person, or Lot's voice and Goliath are read by the same person), but it is never too close together and the readers do an excellent job of changing their voices as befits the situation (and there are some audio effects to enhance this where appropriate, as in Goliath's voice being lowered in pitch so that he sounds really large). There are both male and female readers, as the passage requires.

For those who have never read the Bible or found it difficult to understand, this is a great way to hear the Word. You will find yourself anxious and excited to return to listening. Instead of listening to the same old rock and roll, rap or country, download this to your MP3 player and pop it in your car's audio input and get ready for your life to be changed. The fact that different characters read different parts really creates engaging dialogs. The readers all do an excellent job and have good voices that seem appropriate for the part they read. This is a great way to share the Bible with your entire family when you are in the car.

This is such a fantastic product. Both Old & New Testaments. Dramatization is exquisite & makes scripture come alive. I fall asleep in God's arms when I listen to it at bedtime, & He blesses me to absorb His word subconsciously. I have scripture come to me all the time, & it has to be attributed to this dynamic way of presenting the Word! Thanks!! Fast shipping. UPS is the only reason it arrived a day late NOT Amazon!!

I love this simple Audio bible version. I recently purchased "THE EXPERIENCE" Audio version and didn't like it because it was SO dramatic and a bit too Ethnic (sounded like the Lion King.....and YES, I am Black American) that I felt that all the drama took away from the actual word of God. This version has some music and sounds in the back ground and also the "readers" quote the Bible chapter number on each chapter (The Experience doesn't do that...well at least in the New Testament audios). At any rate, I should be stating why I love this Audio version and not why I hated "The Experience" version, so with that, I love this one.

Just to make sure, I do NOT rate the Bible per se. The Bible is Bible, there is nothing you can add or deduct by rating... :) The performance is good, I have no problem with it. But...

...the format is terrible. This audio book is NOT divided into chapters. Instead it is divided into several sections which include many books.

Thus, if you want to read it as regular book, it may work. But, if you want to read it as you read the Bible -- referring to a certain book or chapter for daily listening, this audio book is NOT suitable. One will not be able simply complete Numbers and Start Romans.

Therefore... good performance, but terrible design. I do not recommend this product.

I love it!! It easy to understand, the voices and background sounds are not distracting. It give you a clear understanding of the Bible. Its told like a story, so if your looking to learn Bible verses, the NIV version is not what you want. However, if your looking to understand the stories, this is the audio version you would want. I listen in the car on my way to and from work, and I go through a disc every 2 days. Its great, I wouldn't be able to read that fast.

This came highly recommended. I find the voices so wrong for how I think they should sound that I don't listen to them often. It is almost as if the voices are too young, or too bland. I guess I wanted the Alstate Insurance guy to play the part. This seems more like a college play.

This is a good version of a spoken bible with different voices. I use it every day on my commute and have gone through it at least 7 times. This is the 2011 version which is different than what I am used to. It's almost that the translators attempted to be politically correct in cases referring to verses which have the word men used which is now being referred to as humans or sons and daughters, anything that limited the verse to men was altered to include women in some form. I don't think it changes the meaning and I can see how they wanted to be more inclusive but it was a bit different than what I am used to. There are some voices which can be a bit depressing and monotone especially Isaiah and Jeremiah. There is some obvious over-acting which is distracting and laughable. Just read the text and stop trying to disguise your voice or add some accent that sounds fake. Overall I still like it and will continue to use it.
