I really liked how there are notes made throughout The Jesus Bible, published by ZonderKidz, that references back and forth to procephies about the coming Messiah and how Jesus fulfilled them. Each note describes the exact prophesy, instead of just saying, “Fulfilled in this book and chapter.”
There are study notes throughout the Bible as well, and devotionals with prayers every few pages (there are 365.) I also found several ‘apply it to your life” notes.
The Jesus Bible also features full-colour inserts of Jesus in the Psalms, the Miracles of Jesus, His family tree, timelines, and more. The words of Christ are in red text.
At the end of the Bible there are indexes of devotions, hints of the Savior revealed, a concordance, and full-colour maps. The pages are of good quality paper. The age recommendation on the back says 9-12.
Like I said, I usually don’t recommend an NIV Bible, but as far as this one goes with its devotionals and notes, I like it and will keep it for use with my children.
A few truly excellent features include:
-365 daily devotions which are located on every few pages.
-At the beginning of each book there is a page outlining items such as, “Where is Jesus in this book?” “Who wrote this book?” and “What are some of the stories in this book?”
-My favorite: super-short prayers on every three pages or so, which are extremely age-appropriate. These teach children to speak to God with gratitude and informality.
Other study helpers at the back of the book include:
-Table of weights and measures.
-An index of the devotions located throughout the bible for easy reference.
-Index of “Hints of the Savior/Jesus Revealed” throughout the Old Testament.
-Concordance and maps.
Being a hardcover, once you crack the spine, the bible lays open nicely. I was showing it to my 15-year old daughter and mentioned that a soft cover option would be nice. She reminded me that all my kids had hardcover bibles in their younger years, and she preferred them.
This bible was kindly sent to me from Booksneeze, which they provided in exchange for my honest review.
The key features that I love and my nephew loved most about this Bible are the following:
1: There is a wonderful Family Tree of Jesus as you first open the Bible. It really helps to simplify many of the Old Testament bloodlines and how they trace to Jesus.
2: There are book introductions to each Book of the Bible as well as wonderful little daily devotions! My nephew particularly loved these. He said that the little "prayer" sections helped him say prayers because sometimes he wasn't sure what to say. I just thought that was very sweet and the prayers written are very nice. The footnotes they add are also very informative and helpful in understanding that particular section of the Bible.
3: There is a weights and measurements conversion table in the back of the Bible which we find helpful as well. It has the Biblical Unit along with the American and Metric units for easy comparison.
4: There was a wonderful little index of devotions in the back as well. Those are wonderful because my nephew and I love to pick a story from the Bible and read those verses.
5: The New International Version really helps simplify some of the harder to understand scriptures in the Bible, which is excellent for younger readers.
All in all, this Bible is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone with children who are in the 8-14 age range. But honestly, I love this Bible and find myself reading it just as much as my nephew, so I think even an older individual would love this Bible.
