From the Back Cover

Neuro Linguistic Programming is the systemic study of human communication and how we create our subjective world with all its pains and pleasures. It is also the study of exceptional talent: how outstanding individuals and organisations get their results. With NLP everyone can be naturally talented.

NLP is not only a collection of effective techniques, it is also a way of thinking based on curiosity, exploration, and fun.

The 'NLP Workbook' is a complete guide to NLP and includes:
• The principles of NLP clearly explained in an easy-to-follow format
• All of the basic NLP techniques and training exercises
• A guide to what techniques to use where

Some of the topics discussed in detail are: rapport and trust, changing emotional states, how to visualise, negotiation skills, mental rehearsal, the language of the conscious and the unconscious, and coaching.

Joseph Oconnor is brilliant. His writing is clear, he gets across the ideas and basic absolute fundamental essentials of NLP that many other books take too long or use too complex descriptions are simply aren't clear. Oconnor's writing, and complete understanding of NLP for that matter, is so incredibly well communicated. If NLP is the deep structure to become communicated to the reader through the surface structure of the book, Oconnor uses no generalizations, deletions, nor distortions! Finally a clear NLP book that's fairly advanced. 'Disclaimer": I'm "fairly" new -- 3 years into - to NLP and have been trying to connect with the "Fathers" of it -- bandler, grinder, and a bunch of other gurus, and I got bits and pieces from all those works, but oconnor seems to neatly tie it all together with tremendously lucid writing.

I've been studying NLP for years and have done many trainings. This is where I'd recommend people start. As an auditory-digital learner, I need to understand the framework of a thing before I can conceptualize it and make it really useful to me. In all the trainings I've gotten, they have taught applications with no real framework. That's effective to a point, but I wasn't able to utilize the techniques to their full potential because I didn't understand the framework.

The other way that this showed up in my work was that I was able to language things correctly, but wasn't as purposeful as I could have been because I didn't really get it conceptually. When you have a thing conceptually, there is no end to what you can do with it. This book gives me that. Before this book I had master level training. Now I can say I have the tools to be a master level practitioner.

A lot of what is here looks like it's been repeated elsewhere. It looks like it's beginner level stuff. I wouldn't discount it. It's not really the content so much as how it's presented. This clicks for me in ways that other workshops and books haven't.

The NLP Workbook has been a fantastic place to start in regards to my study with NLP and the science behind how people work. This book introduces you to the fact that our language (verbal and body) is a mirror to our innermost beliefs. What has caught my attention the most from my reading and participation with the exercises involved is how much of what we do goes unnoticed - we are just unconscious of many of the beliefs we have, speech patterns we use and identity issues we may have.

Who I would recommend this book for is someone who wants to know what it takes to get a genuine look at things outside of your own reality. I recommend this to people who want to be successful, because if there is one thing this book does a good job of, it is teaching on modeling successful behaviors by developing an awareness unlinke you've ever known.

I'm excited to continue my journey through NLP, to change my own inner circle and the world with what this book is beginning to teach me and how I can connect with others on a deeper level to get the results I desire as well as help others get theirs.

This book is a very balanced overview of definitions, principles, and practice. It could be used as a learning textbook as well as a kickoff workbook for application. Easily readable for beginners and not boring for more knowledgeable. (I fit in the second category.) References to more recent world events and social topics keep it from seeming out-of-date. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, found it a very useful review of my knowledge while extending some insights, and I'm confident it has prepared me for my upcoming training as an NLP Practitioner.

If you are going to take the practitioner course then this is a nice way to get your head round it before you start the course. NLP can be jargon riddled at times so this book could familiarise you with some of it. I think the writer explains everything in a consise way. Not exactly bedtime reading but for the basic groundwork understanding of what NLP is all about then it's not a bad start at all.

The first NLP Introduction and so much more. This workbook had real actionable information and exercises. The value of this training and technique is far beyond the expense of the book and the time it takes to read it. It's a life-changing experience. I'm thoroughly grateful for the author's efforts and expertise.

I was exposed to some basic NLP techniques bacl in the 90s via Tony Robins seminars...I had a reawaking to its benifits recently when I complete Dr. Van Tharps Peak-Performance course in Top Trading....So I used his reference to get some of the works from NLP "founders". Those books were "bizzar" - I could find no conreate practicallity....THEN I FOUND THIS BOOK....What a breadth of freash air! Practicale - easy to understand!!! Where it falls short some: The outline needs just a little work; Need more on how the various techniques fit together; Need a chapter on Modeling (the modeling was not given sufficent treatment at all)....Overall though, a good book for NLP basics.

Joseph has written other books that are more prose, analogy and examples, but this is the book to buy if preparing for an NLP certification. This workbook has breadth and depth covering the entire NLP body of knowledge.
