Good charger for back-up sump application

This seems to be a great charger! I am using it as a permanently installed charger in a back-up battery-powered sump pump application. I have dual 12-volt deep cycle maintenance free batteries in series for a 24-volt system that feeds a back-up sump pump. It installed in a few minutes but I did have to install different size connectors to fit my battery posts, I configured it in a few seconds, and it has been running fine. This is obviously not designed to deliver high current under continuous operation, but it seems to keep my batteries fully charged and no worries of over-charging. I like the fact that it indicates the percent charge on the batteries, and it definitely shows the drop in charge as the back-up pump goes through run cycles and drains the batteries. I have not had it long enough to vouch for reliability, but it appears to be well made and well designed. As an electronics engineer, I am satisfied with it from a technical and functional perspective.

Update: After nearly 18 months of operation, here is an update that you should be aware of. This charger is very sensitive to power outage glitches, which we get a lot of in our area.
I was wondering what was going on but finally figured it out. The unit charges just fine, but when we get a short power glitch, the unit gets hung up. During a power glitch (lasting a second or two), the unit does not recover. It just sits there with all the indicators blinking. I have to unplug the unit and wait a minute before plugging it back in, then it works fine. I tested this by flicking the circuit breaker on and off quickly, and was able to repeat the problem every time. I fixed it by first plugging the charger into a plug-in surge protector. Works like a champ! So, not sure if it is just my unit or a general issue, but the unit I have is sensitive to power glitches. If you are depending on it to operate without checking it now and then (as in a sump pump battery back-up application like I use it for) then be aware that it might fail when stressed by the power grid. The surge protector seems to fix the problem and I have not had any trouble since. I tend to check my sump system every few days just because it is convenient to do so, so that is how I caught this issue. I am still happy with it but would be concerned about purchasing another one, especially for an unattended long-term charging application.

works great!!!

I needed a new charger after my old one stopped working. I looked around and saw this one. After reading the reviews i went ahead and ordered it. Right before i got my charger my weekend wheeler truck didn't want to start. So i took my battery to get tested at my local auto parts store and they told me my battery was "bad" and i needed a new one. So i took my battery back home and saw that the charger had arrived and it was the perfect time to test it out. I attached the charger to my battery and left it alone for the night. When i came back out in the morning it was fully charged so i took the charger off and let the battery sit. I checked it a few days later and it was still holding the same charge as it had when i took off the charger. The battery is still holding its full charge two weeks later. This battery charger saved me from buying a new battery when this "bad battery" is still good. I would recommend this charger to anybody who has a vehicle.

Huge differance from other chargers

I have gotten myself 5 of these chargers and plan to get a few more soon. These things are just more then what you can read about. To say the least these truly are very smart chargers. They also do really charge faster then any other charger I have ever used. I use them to charge all our power wheel batteries, I have to/try to keep up with 17 batteries. The kids can wear out a battery and this will have it back to 100% in 2 hours (nap time). All the safety feature are truly a must having these around the kids as well. I recommend these to anyone who owns any type of battery. As far as the charging of power wheels batteries go, make a quick connect you will thank yourself.

Innovatively designed auto battery charger

Pros:
(1)Innovative and well-thought design
(2)Good build quality
(3)Light weight and portable size. Easy to store and carry around
(4)The charger can tell the health of your battery with 'Diagnostics' feature
(5)can rescue or repair 'sick/dead' battery which is deeply discharged, sulfated or damaged.
(6)Owner's Manual& User Guide is well-written and very helpful
Cons:
(1)Warranty service is not free, in fact, it is quite expensive. I think most of Genius Charger owners are not very happy about it when warranty service is needed. Hopefully, repair rate is very low.
(2)The price tag of G1100 is almost $45, a bit overpriced, but good battery maintenance and extended battery life compensate the cost.

I got my G1100 for less than a week. I got trouble when I used it to charge my battery the first time, all LEDs illuminated and were blinking once the AC power was plugged into an electrical outlet. Obviously, it was an error warning. I checked all connections and found nothing wrong. I suspected my G1100 is a bad charger. I looked into Troubleshooting in User Guide before calling NOCO Genius for help. Troubleshooting indicates that my 2 year old battery is in very bad condition as a result of sulfation or damage. COSTCO gave me a free replacement because my old battery is still within 3 years warranty. G1100 saved me $75. I installed the new battery, then charged it again. All 5 charging steps went through as smooth as expected and successfully. It took about 5 hours to complete a full charge (from 25% to 100% full charge). I will update my review when needed. So far, everything is going well with my G1100 charger.

Follow up 9/6/2014 my NOCO stopped working. It was used to keep Corvette charged since I only drive it twice a month. Therefore the charger was constantly on. Using a special screw driver I open the charger and found three over heated Aluminum electrolytic capacitors that had leaked brown fluid all over the mother board. It's obvious that the capacitors were low quality 1500hr duration and not the 5000hr high end capacitor you would expect in hi load chargers. So be advised if your charger is on 24/7 you could suffer the same type failure.
