The NOCO GC020 12V 2-Way Splitter appears to be a high quality, ruggedly built item that should last a long time if used properly. My biggest problem with this splitter is the lack of any instruction manual or online documentation giving you important information such as the amperage limits and fuse replacement instructions.

Some people will have no problem figuring out how to replace the internal 8 amp fuse in this product, but I imagine a majority of folks using this will have no idea how to do this safely, and may just end up disposing of it out of frustration; or worse, inadvertently install a fuse with a higher amp rating creating an unsafe situation with continued use of the product.

To make it easier, here is the information for the fuse replacement. It's a "61NM", 6mm x 30mm glass fuse, 8A fast blow, 250V. You can find replacements at most any hardware store, home center, or electronics store. The fuse is located inside the male plug of the splitter. Unscrew the knurled nut (you might need pliers) and the fuse will fall out along with the contact tip and a small spring. Make sure to put the spring back in first, then the new fuse, and finally, screw the knurled nut back on making sure the contact tip is protruding toward the front of the plug.

To make matters worse, both the Amazon product description and the NOCO website, geniuschargers, state the following misleading product information: "Made from a high-conductivity 100-percent copper wire and a rated capacity of 15-amperes. Perfect for your favorite 12-volt devices, like a tire inflator, vacuum, coffee maker and more." The wiring and connectors used in this splitter may be rated for 15 amps @ 12V, but the inline fuse is only rated for 8 amps!Read more ›

for some reason I was led to believe this powerport with eyelets would be longer. the dang thing is barely more than 2 feet! Now I have to splice it and add length myself. If there is a longer version, somehow I didn't select it or was not shipped it. Just be advised about this.

This is the best HD -12v plug Extension Cable. I tried 2 other brands - they both used 16 gauge wire and they both melted at the rear of the plug. I learned latter, that 16 gauge wiring can only handle about 5 amp continuous current draw... This unit has 14 gauge copper wires and can handle a 15 amp current draw with no problems what so ever.
I installed this cable and plug in our 2015 GMC Yukon, I needed a heavy duty plug-in, that could handle our RVI-3 brake controller for our diny towing application.
I cut the cigarette lighter plug off,... Installed a 15 amp in-line fuse holder and fuse on the positive wire.. I then, installed a ring terminal on the positive lead and connected it directly to the vehicles battery. For the negative lead I use an alligator clamp so it cold be removed when not in use.

I have now purchased three of these. One for my personal vehicle and two for my work truck. This by far the best splitter I have ever used. It is constructed of a heavy gauge wire and sturdy plastic.. The plug and sockets are well made and do not constantly slip like other brands that I have used. Prior to my first purchase of this item, I purchased a much more fancy looking splitter from an auto parts store.... total waste of money. It failed the first time I put a load on it and it wasn't even due to an inline fuse. The Noco splitter can take a beating and performs flawlessly. I definitely recommend this product. Just for reference, in my work truck, I have a satellite radio and dash mount light bar plugged into one splitter and a GPS and handheld spotlight in the other. In my personal vehicle I have a dash cam and a 3-way USB charging hub plugged into the splitter. No issues.

Overall, this product has the quality and finish of the NOCO products I have come to expect. The wire gauge is large, the terminals have the characteristic NOCO design flair, and the connections all feel tight and robust.

The only complaint I would have about this product (and it is a small one) is that the 12V socket does not have the effort placed in the design like the terminals do. The socket is high quality and works great, but it doesn't have that NOCO feel to it. It has a slip fit cap and a matte plastic case with no special moldings. I would love to see the NOCO look molded into the socket with a twist locking cap, for example. That being said, tooling up new molds is expensive, so I can understand why they may have avoided that for a product at this price point.

As far as products like this one go, I would not buy anything other than NOCO. They outperform everything else I have owned for a comparable price.
