I own every Video Game console ever made. I am a huge collector and I work in the video game industry for over 15 years. I was a Huge Nintendo Fan Boy from back in the day of Donkey Kong and Mario Bros.
Every system has its shining moments that make them worth buying or offer something the others don’t
I always buy Console Exclusive Games and would buy Cross Platform games on the system I used the most. That was until Xbox Live 13 years ago. I went from buying all my Cross platform games for the PS2 to Xbox if they were online games only for the Xbox due to Xbox Live.
Once again the Xbox 360 although not superior graphically with the improvement of Xbox Live made it the go to system although I still loved my PS3 for the exclusive titles Sony’s online services suck.
Fast forward to the Xbox One. At launch it was far from perfect with a lot of issues. But Xbox Live is what drew me to use this as my main stay. My PS4 once again is used only for Exclusives because the online services are just not up to snuff with Microsoft.
A lot of people were angry and despised not having an option of having a Kinect-less system. It was something that the 360 had at launch of having an HDD or not to save money. I hated the Kinect for the 360 it was a great Idea on paper but was just not possible with due to cost effectiveness and technology. The new Kinect is amazing and I am sad that support of it is falling to the wayside. It is the one thing I use the most on the Xbox One. From being able to tell it to switch to Netflix from telling it to record game clips. My wife will be in our bedroom trying to tell the TV or Blu-ray player commands and nothing happens and she says “why can’t everything be like Xbox Kinect?

I've been an Xbox fanboy since the original xbox. I still have all three consoles. At first the Xbox one was pretty difficult to navigate when accessing xbox live functions such as chat and party invites, network related features. My group of friends and I have had a lot of issues in this department. Things have become a little better after some updates but these updates should have come much sooner considering the price that we invested as early adopters. Many frustrating hours have been spent connecting, reconnecting, having chat problems, rebooting, refresh rate issues, etc. These problems need attention.

I have had absolutely no issues whatsoever with my Xbox One. The packaging is very professional and it protects the contents inside the box more than adequately. When I initially set-up my system, it required an internet connection, and it installed an update. The dashboard on the Xbox One definitely has a Windows 8 feel to it, what with the "tiles" and what not (though I will say that it is odd at first, several months down the road, navigating the Xbox One dashboard is seamless and is almost second nature). The Xbox One has great performance specifications and will continue to impress for a very long time to come. The improved Kinect is also very cool. Almost everything you do on the Xbox One can be done by voice command, and it is very user friendly. The unit itself is sleek and modern looking - and feels very well built and solid. Microsoft wants this to be pretty much an "all in one" media unit in people's living room. There is a HDMI passthrough built in to the Xbox One, which means that you can run other HDMI components through the Xbox One and to your TV (ie. Cable boxes, blu-ray players, etc.). There are a limited number of games out for the Xbox One at the moment, but obviously this will continue to change as time goes on. I will say, though, that for the games I have played, the graphics are stunning, and so is the fact that games can maintain such a high frame rate regardless of how much stuff is going on in the game (check out Dead Rising 3). I recommend this entertainment system to anyone that could be in the market for one. You won't regret it!

I am hesitant to say that the Xbox one deserves 5 stars, but I do love it.

I am enamored with the ease of switching between apps, TV, and games....when it works properly. I am enamored by the games....Dead Rising 3 is so much fun. I love the controller, I love so many things about this console that you already know from reading several other reviews.....HOWEVER,

These are the things that I think could use improvement:

NO DVR Support through Xbox OneGuide: I understand it deals with proprietary software through cable companies, but why can't it control my DVR behavior as well? Why can't my controller walk around the cable box? That being said, it's so easy once you're in actual tv to use your remote, so it's not like I have to change the HDMI cable.

Voice commands don't do so well when TV is on. I guess there is something about the constant noise, but I'm not sure.

My cable box has a tendency to disconnect from the xbox, and I need to reset one or the other to get it working...that's disappointing, and until it happens more I won't be really sure whether or not it will pose a long term issue.
