Each year, 40% of all food in the U.S. never gets eaten. That means wasted resources that were used to grow it, wasted energy that was used to transport it, and wasted money that you used to bring it home. A family of four spends around $1,500 a year on food they don’t eat. Such wastefulness is unreasonable, but luckily, there’s something we can do about it: make the most of the food we already buy.
The Save The Food skill allows you to do this with ease. Ask about any food, and Alexa can help you store it to last longer, discern if it’s still good, and even revive it when it’s past its prime. Just ask things like:
• Alexa, ask Save The Food how to store asparagus.
• Alexa, ask Save The Food if my avocados are still good.
• Alexa, ask Save The Food if wilted celery is okay to eat.
So, enable the Save The Food skill to start saving resources, money, and most importantly, food.
Would like to be able to enter dates for food I cooked so I can track if it is still ok to consume. So like Monday if I cook salmon asparagus and rice I would tell Alexa " Alexa Mon 8/7 salmon asparagus and wild rice placed in fridge " that way can ask say Fri if still able to eat items.
Love this skill! Not gonna lie, I'm a terrible at food saving because I waste a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables because I didn't know how to store them or I forgot about them in the fridge. With this I can unpack my groceries and ask Alexa how to store them!!
We buy a lot of groceries every week to feed our family of 5 (plus a dog), and after using this skill for a few days, I now feel like we've been needlessly wasting so much food! But I think that's the whole point. This is going to save me the time of going back to the grocery store so frequently, and the money spent on getting the same things every week without storing them properly.
