Just re-read this and realized I never did a review on it the last time I read it (probably because I read books 1-5 in the NYPD Red series in less than a week).

This is a great premise for a story. You have a murder (and more than one, actually), kidnapping, resurfacing sins of the past, and encounters with the uber rich (a staple for the Red team). Combine those factors with a potential love triangle situation between Zach, new-ish girlfriend Cheryl, and Zach’s current partner/former lover Kylie, and you’ve got all the elements needed for a truly engaging read.

Even though I knew what was going to happen, I enjoyed this novel even more the second time around than the first. If you like cop/mystery books peppered with humor and shades of romance, you’ll love this novel and the series as a whole. There are some f-bombs and cursing (not a lot, in my opinion), but no graphic sex.

NYPD 3 is the 3rd book in the NYPD Red series with Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, who solve crimes against the rich, famous and the powerful. This book is about the kidnapping of a rich and powerful billionaire's son.

This book is written in the same James Patterson style. Fast moving pace, with short chapters. Lots of twists and turns.

What I also enjoy about this book is how well we get to know the characters, not only their professional lives but their personal lives as well. We get to see all the personal drama played out in both their lives.

It isn't necessary to have to read the other books first. There is plenty of mentions of the previous books in NYPD Red 3.

I definitely recommend this book to those who enjoy mystery/thriller books. James Patterson fans won't be disappointed.

This book followed the classic Patterson formula- crime is committed (usually a murder), detectives or investigator (professional or amateur) begin investigation, some classic twists are thrown in, and the good guys save the day.

This was a super quick read and I've enjoyed the NYPD Red series. I like to read James Patterson novels spaced between the heavier books to give me something lighter that's a quick read. While I enjoyed this book, it was far from my favorite in the series. I liked that it focused a little more on the personal lives of Zach and Kylie, but i found it hard to believe these were the same fearless detectives solving these high profile cases. Their personal lives read more like teen fiction. Other than that, a really fast read that kept my attention. I'll plan on reading #4 in 2016.

Fast Read... Lots of Twists

As usual, the masterful Mr. Patterson keeps us at the edge of our seats and turning the pages as fast as we can!
The two detectives, Zack and Kylie, are both very intense with strong personalities, and often conflicting ideas on how to handle their cases.
The one thing I will have to say though, is the on again off again hints of romance between the two partners is becoming a bit too much of a soap opera.
It makes Zach appear a little bit conflicted about his relationship with Cheryl!

I've only read about 1/3 of the book but I've enjoyed the read so far. James Patterson is a master when it comes to writing books about "Cops" and it seems the writers he chooses to come along for the ride are close to being as good as he is at weaving plot twists, and developing characters that you want to root for. I particularly like his 2-3 page chapters. In this world of split-seconds, it's difficult to pick up where you left off if there are more than three pages in a chapter, especially if there's been any "time" between readings. His books are like old friends -- you can pick them up after a month away and still it's, "oh yeah, I remember this."

When this cop duo are faced with finding out who murdered a billionaire's chauffeur they expect mystery and intrigue but what they don't expect and need is to be stone walled by the billionaire. surely he'd want to find out who killed this kind and loyal man. The billionaire is hiding something, they just don't know what or why. This odious man is haunted by his passed actions and his son who has gone missing knows why. Will the duo of NYPD Red succeed where others haven't? well as long as their passed relationship and the troubles they are having in their present ones don't get in the way they just might . It is fast paced and convoluted and vengeance will be sought and found. Great characters and tension maintained throughout the story. Can't wait for the next one

Some will say this is a tadge far fetched, similar to other storylines out there and same old lines, but I like James Patterson. I like the characters, he creates, the interactions between them, and the storylines. This series is an easy to read, not the same graphic details of the Alex Cross series, but with just enough pace and twists and turns to keep you wanting more.
Recommend this for fans of JPs other books, Scott Marianni and Dan brown. I'm not going to write anything relating to the plot as a I don't want to spoil it for anyone, what I will say is that you can read this as a stand alone book but I would recommend you read the series in order to understand the relationships....

(Well at least one of them does). A murder mystery with its fair share of twists. Can a murderer escape justice? I will not spoil it but the story will keep you guessing. Now for NYPD 4.
