Edit: the following edit is based on a review after my purchase of Slay. It's a bit more brown-looking than the picture suggests (at least it is on me), but that's just perfect.
I've seen a few continuous complaints in other reviews and they all seem consistent with application failures. So, here's a few tricks:
You may need to exfoliate before application. Just be gentle and only look to get the excess tissue off. I wet a washcloth and rub it on my lips (especially where they touch when my mouth is closed) and it's enough.
Don't apply moisturizer directly before applying the lip dye. Or, if you need to have moisturizer, apply it, let it soak in or wipe if off, THEN apply the dye. After it dries (about 3 minutes and smile the entire time if you have deep wrinkles in your lips), take a wetted Q-tip and smudge off the parts that dried too thick to get a consistent look. When finished, BEFORE applying any other colorings, apply some chapstick. I use Burt's Bees Ultra Conditioning. And reapply the chapstick multiple times per day. This IS a dye, but when rubbed on, will come off. The same as rubbing a spot on your hands will remove ink from it. Friction will remove the color, so keep your lips smooth.
If you want a very light color, you can do one of two things.
Either wet a Q-tip and dab it on the applicator to get very little color and immediately apply it to your lips (this is perfect for more pink colors like Fresh if you want a more natural look) or scrap the applicator and wet your lips with water before applying (I do this with Slay because I like it darker but not completely dark). Do not use moisturizer or lip balm or anything to spread the color, because it won't work. The oils from the balm will just keep the coloring away from your lips in that area and the bulk of it will settle wherever the balm has already soaked in or rubbed off.
I don't recommend using this product if you have lips that are different tissue types, such as scarring, or if they have cracked or peeled from something such as sunburn or extreme cold. The color is very adhesive to dryer tissues and will be much darker and will not lose its color throughout the day as quickly as the healthier tissue.
I have most of the colors now.
Blazed is a little pinker (not by much) than the color in the images, but looks amazing whether it's fully applied or lightly applied. It's my favorite.
Fresh is very deep pink (not dark, but bold)with a strong hint of red and looks much better on me lightly applied, but I'm a paper-white brunette with a hint of red in my skin. (I color like a Cherokee when I get sun.)
Obsessed is VERY dark purple. Nearly black when fully applied. It stains very well, so you could actually apply it and rub most of it off and you'd still have very purple lips.
I have Wizardry and Charmer, but since they're much more brown and pink (respectively) than Slay and Fresh (respectively), I haven't tried them, yet.
And like I said, Slay is a more brownish red than the color shows. This is my second favorite.
Please be aware that this IS a dye, as stated on the product. Don't expect a lip gloss or wet lipstick.
----They're messy, and quickly feather out like watercolor paints at the corners of your mouth. (see photo)
----There are random patches where the color doesn't adhere well. (FYI-- this is on my freshly washed face, no moisturizer/balm, which you can see in the otherwise-makeup-free photos below.)
----They don't sheer out very well, despite the watery texture. The color of the tube is more or less the color you get on your lips, which is much darker than expected., and multiple layers or swipes of the wand ends up making your lips look almost black.
----They don't last long. The 2 colors I tried both wore off within an hour.
I had hoped these Lip Dyes would be the kind of thing you could wear while walking or jogging, but perspiration or general moisture in the air will definitely make the color bleed around your mouth.
"Poised" is a nice enough jewel-toned red, but the high maintenance nature makes this an unappealing choice for me.
"Slay" is dark brown, with some red, like cinnamon or nutmeg.
There are so many better lip colors out there---I would definitely not repurchase these.
This is a dye, not a lipstick so it will not cover, only color, that means, if you have cracks or dry skin, they will show with this.
2. Let it dry
3. Cover with balm after it dries for a glossier look

In the 'con' column: wears off much quicker if you don't keep your lips super dry-- drinks, food, saliva, even smoking sucks the colour out. Even if nothing touches your lips, the stain only lasts about an hour at full oomph, then fades from the centre out, gradually disappearing within 3 or 4 hours.
Overall, this has better lasting power than a lot of lip colours I've tried, a nice lightweight feel, and comes in a gorgeous hue. However, I had to deduct 2 stars for the let down of having expected this product to stay put really well, when its performance in this area isn't, in my experience, anything to crow about.
