Pros:
- Sexy matte black finish
- Red accents are subtle and cool (wish I got ALL black, but I'm happy with this)
- The illuminated back for the connections PLUS the switch is GREAT
- The limited access side panel has a foam insulator for noise (possibly a gimmick)
- Lots of hard drive space
- No optical drive bays
- Mostly tool-less
- Access to the back of CPU heatsink mounting bracket while motherboard is mounted in case (first owned case that had this and I installed a water cooler after mounting the mobo so that was extremely convenient)
- Numerous options for fans (size and number of)
- Seems like great airflow (sorry, I meant to compare temps from old case to new, but I knew that I'd be starting to experiment with water cooling for the first time soon so it ultimately had no benefit to me to collect the data really). I did get a NZXT 280mm water cooler that keeps my CPU almost AT room temperature when under medium load (it was an extreme overkill that I regret) and it's a great fit in the case too when placed at the top.
- Nice "hooks/loops/tracks" for tying and running cables
Cons:
- Can't turn off large "NZXT" white light logo inside case (I'm not a "lights in my computer" kind of nerd)
- No option for windowless panel (I'm considering spray painting it, but I will never get the colors to match so I probably won't)
- The limited access side panel has very little clearance for your thicker cords so it will damage that foam insulator plus it's difficult to close
- The paint job can be VERY fragile. Chips of paint are already coming off where the screws touch. Knock on wood, no scratches yet but I've been very careful
- Thumb screws can be difficult to turn or just won't thread correctly
- Front and top panels are scary taking off for the first time (I thought I was going to break it)
- WARNING!!! I just had a scary experience so this is why I'm mostly writing this review right now. I came home today to find what seemed like a shot PSU, but I couldn't believe it--it's less than 2 years old, it's overkill on wattage so I'm not underpowered, it's deadbeat winter and connected to surge protector so lightning is out of the question, I tried changing the power plug and plugged into different socket, but nothing ever worked no signs of electricity, nothing. After searching Google, I came back about 10 minutes later and leaving it unplugged to find out that it started up again; however, after 5 seconds of me pressing the button there was a bright spark, loud pop, and electrical smoke smell. I didn't panic because I saw where it happened and knew what had happened. I readjusted wires, unplugged, waited, turned on, and now we've been running for a solid 30 minutes with no hiccups. *SIGH* of relief. WHAT HAPPENED... It was the "dumb" fan controller (comes with the case and is more just a power splitter than anything) touched a piece of metal. I think everything is okay now, but wanted to warn you at least. I think I could have potentially torched the entire computer. I would have been very upset then.
Final Words:
- Decent buy
- Would PROBABLY NOT buy again, I'd search around a bit more
- I wish I tried a Mini ATX tower because my rig is built for productivity/media and not for games (it can probably play a bleeding edge game at medium settings with great performance) so it has a pretty small footprint. This case swallows my components, but I still like the extra room for expansion and for working in
It isn't quiet. This is one thing I was expecting it to be, especially since some people noted that the fans weren't pushing that much air. My 7 year old Antec case was significantly quieter (at light load), which is a bit of disappointment. The NZXT case does push more air through the case and keeps it slightly cooler and quieter at full load. This is thanks to the whole front being fans and the power supply having its own intake, but the difference isn't as big as you might expect. It keeps my i7 and two Radeon HD 6970 humming at decent but not low temperatures, and I can imagine that there would be an issue if you were planning to run a system with a lot of overclocking. More powerful fans and a fan controller would have been really nice to have. Since there are no bays on the front you can't easily install your own fan controller either.
One more thing that adds to the noise is that the hard drive mounts do not offer much to absorb vibrations from old school hard drives. The trays them selves are rather narrow so the drive is likely to touch one of the sides. Even if the tiny rubber spacers for the screws had worked vibrations would likely be picked up on the sides as well. I ended up taking pieces from my old case and mounting my single old school drive at the bottom of the case to get rid of the hard drive rattle.
Based on the reviews I read I was surprised to find a lack of space for cables on the back of the motherboard tray. You more or less have to feed all the cables along the front edge of the motherboard tray. That side has a nicely bent edge that makes mounting the cables there a lot easier but I find it gets a bit crowded there since so many cables end up there instead of behind the motherboard. I could for example not fit the main power cable for the motherboard behind it, which I could on my old case. Not the end of the world but worth mentioning.
All in all I expected more from this case. It still looks great and finish is good, I just wish it functioned as well as it looked. I'm still giving it 4 stars since it looks so much better than any other case I have ever seen, otherwise it would have been barely 3.

This case is really impressive, the packaging it comes in is sufficient and did not come with any visible damage. The case itself is really good quality, made mostly out of steel apart from for the red accent colours which is done in plastic. The steel is finished with a matt black finish which makes it feel very high quality. The outside of the case features a power button, reset button, headphone and mic jacks, 2x USB 3.0 and 2x USB 2.0.
The case internally layed out very well, the PSU is hidden underneath a pre-installed shroud with a light up NZXT logo, which can be toggled with a switch on the back of the case. This helps to hide all the cables making the appearance of the computer through the plastic side window appear very clean if cables are organised properly. The hard drive bay at the front of the case also has a big metal shroud covering the hard drives which also helps to hide the cables better. For the motherboard, there is a preinstalled alignment pin for the middle hole, the other standoffs came preinstalled for a standard ATX motherboard.and the cutout behind the CPU is sufficiently large for most coolers. There is plenty of space also for a graphics card with plenty room for most long graphics cards, and if it is too long some of the hard drive bays can be removed to allow extra room for the GPU to extend through the whole case.
In terms of negative points, there are only 5 hard drive bays (supporting both 2.5" and 3.5" drives), along with an extra 2.5" space on the back of the motherboard tray and 2 extra 2.5" bays in the front of the case underneath the motherboard. The limited amount of 3.5" bays could be an issue for some people wishing to have large amounts of hard drives, although it is obvious that NZXT have decided to only include 5 bays to allow extra spacing between them for extra ventilation for the 3 fans on the front of the case. The other negative point, which may not be an issue for everyone is there is no 5.25" slots on the front of this case, so there is no room for CD/DVD drives or card readers, and if these are needed, you will need to get external USB versions.
Overall, this is one of the nicest cases I have ever seen and used, it is well worth the cost (£84.99 at time of purchase) and would be my first recommendation for anybody building a computer.
It's a fantastic case, a huge improvement over my old one. i would thoroughly recommend it.
one thing to bear in mind though, is this case is a pretty huge, but that's really to be expected. This is a full atx case, and then some! There's a boatload of room for storage drives, and the cable management space on the back side helps keep the main area in front of the motherboard clear for improved airflow. Since moving from a GMC Corona R3 my temperatures have dropped significantly, just because of being able to get more air through. The multiple huge fans included with the case help as well! These 4 large diameter fans plus soundproofing built in really helps keep the noise down too.
