Now, I'll try to cover all parts of the case and it's performance.
a. Front USB 3.0 (which is basically an extension cord to the back), along with 3 more USB 2.0, and a 3 speed fan switch.
Pros - These are all very nice, the fan switch is very useful and works well.
Cons - Would be nice to have USB 3.0 motherboard headers.
b. Foam noise insulation
Pros - Seems to work, completely lines the sides and front panel.
Cons - With the door closed, the foam in front of the front 2 fans gets very, very close to it, which I believe suffocates the case (more on that later). Also, there could be foam on the top panel area and the foam feels somewhat cheap, not anything space-age, but simply just a thin sheet of standard, medium density foam.
c. 3 built in fans (120mm, 2 in the front, 1 in the back), space for a 120mm on the bottom, and a 140mm on the top.
Pros - Quiet, pre-connected to the fan controller, look very nice. Front 2 fans are hot-swappable, and come out very easily, as they are wireless fans. I liked these fans enough that I bought the 140mm version to use as a top vent fan.
Cons - None.
d. Door and front LEDs
Pros - I have to say this case is very sleek looking, and modern.Read more ›
Now, on to the actual review:
*Rock solid construction - no flex, no mess like cheap cases
*Great sound-proofing - walls, front door are padded with acoustic dampening material and the HDD trays are rubber with rubberized screws
*Dust fighting technology - this one I had no idea about until I opened the case: lovely mesh covering all the intake fans to protect the insides from dust and other household crap. The only caveat is I had to put my own mesh on the PS, but, that is a minor oversight.
*Great case design - several rubberized wire-holes to allow for easy routing of cables outta the way and behind the mobo for a clean look and excellent air flow. PS mounted on the bottom (personally I prefer this). 8! HDD trays with two big silent 120mm fans cooling them (using 6 of them atm). Fan control is great. Love the external SATA dock on the top of the case, very nice touch. USB3.0 compatible port.
Have no idea what the other reviewers are complaining about: the front door is well designed. It allows airflow through well-designed slots on the side and bottom of the door (which double as finger slots when opening :) I've had no issues with heat whatsoever, and the fans are running on the lowest setting: I have 6 enterprise class HDDs sitting in there, with the three 120mm silent case fans running only. I even took off my CPU fan and bought one of those behemoth Zalman passive coolers.
Using the case for a custom WHS build. Very impressed with this case.
I can honestly and sincerely say this is by far the quietest PC, not server, just PC I've ever listened to. I have it sitting next to my TV in the theater room, never heard it once during silent parts of a movie. In fact, I've had to walk over several times to make sure it was still on.
cons: the blue usb 3.0 cable sticking out the back, easily hidden but can't use 3.0 slot in front. not that big of deal to me though. other con is the "hotswap" hdd. i had my hdd with files on it, but in order to use the hotswap, you have to first format the drive. that stinks, so i'm just using it as a little storage place.
so 2 cons but easily taken care of. i still rate this case as awesome.
If you have been looking at this case for a while chances are you read all of the amazon reviews and watch video reviews from YouTube. The problems that you will find out on this places is that the case have bad intake air flow or that comes with a few bad components.
Well this company most have been reading alone your side all this reviews because they are selling a revise version of this case, that's why I say they should mention it on the title. I saw so many videos and read so many reviews that I almost feel as if I had the first batch of this case, now I found quite a few surprises when I unbox this new version of the case.
The first noticeable improvement was the air vents in the front which allows the case to take cool air in are bigger, I don't have an exact measurement but you could say it is 1 1/2 the size of the old one, also it runs 1 1/25 longer. Next thing you going to notice is that the front USB 3 port is not an extension cord to the rear motherboard I/O but and actual USB 3/2 header for those who have Motherboards with support for USB 3 at the front. Another noticeable change they did to this case is that they create an opening by the 5'25 bays which helps to send some of the cables from the hard drives to the back, I saw a couple of videos and they where close before. The rest of the features have been review already but I'll mention the ones I liked the most. First the hot swap-able HDD bay at the top of the unit, also the modular 120mm fans at front, the tool less design of the entire case, the noise reduction capabilities of the case and the fan controller. Also the less is more design and the amount of space in the back of the motherboard for cable management is incredible.Read more ›
