This book contains none of the more sought after-ads. It was published with the cooperation of Nabisco (which took over Cream of Wheat several years ago) and in it, author Dave Stivers documents the company's famous advertising art and profiles the artists who created it. Mr. Stivers' research was thorough; the book is informative and detailed in providing historical information about the Cream of Wheat Company as well as biographical information about the artists commissioned by the company to create its ads.
However, I was greatly disappointed when I saw that the great majority of the Cream of Wheat ads depicting Black people as unintelligent and/or in demeaning and subservient roles are excluded from this publication. As a Black man who collects Black memorabilia, I was very disappointed although I understand why those controversial images were excluded. Still, I wanted to see if there are ads out there that I have not been able to find. I have collected these kinds of ads over the years and wanted to see those images presented in this book. Still, the book is very interesting and informative if you are a collector of advertising art.
