From Booklist

British favorite Mansell’s latest novel is ostensibly about a woman choosing between two men, but it’s the large, colorful cast of characters who add warmth and depth to this story. Landscape designer Nadia Kinsella meets Jay when she’s still involved with male model Laurie, her teenage sweetheart. But when Laurie leaves Nadia to pursue his acting career in Los Angeles, and Nadia ends up working for Jay, she’s hoping the timing will be right. Meanwhile, her impetuous artist sister, Clare, falls for a complete cad, who dumps her when she needs him most, while their father begins his first romance since their mother left him. Their glamorous grandmother Miriam confronts a long-buried secret, and their flighty mother, Leonie, pops back up in time to unsettle their youngest sister, Tilly. Mansell’s trademark wit and quirkiness is showcased in this fun chick-lit tale that has enough going on to keep readers entertained through the last page. --Aleksandra Walker

I find nothing wrong with curling up on a hot summer's day in my garden with a delicious serving of good old British chick lit, and this book more than fills the bill.
It is not on the calibre of Marian Keyes or Jane Green, but "Nadia Knows Best" is a fun, frothy romp that kept me smiling from start to finish.
Our heroine, Nadia, is a landscape artist with a family that defies imagination...three sisters (including herself), a 72-year-old grandmother who still keeps the suitors flocking, a lovely dad who is looking for love--and a boyfriend who lets her down in a major way fairly early in the book.
Nadia tries to overcome her heartbreak over losing boyfriend Laurie while becoming increasingly and disturbingly interested in her new boss Jay, whom she has met previously under very compromising circumstances.
Sound interesting? It is--the plot is fun, fast, lovely and very readable. No major surprises, no life-changing revelations, nothing too taxing for the summertime brain. I say give it a chance. I found it absolutely charming and will definitely look for more by this author.

This is a definite low-point in Jill Mansell's work. I have thoroughly enjoyed all of her other books that I've read but this one just left me feeling blah.

It started with a lot of promise, a quirky family of interesting characters in addition to the typical heroine of chick-lit. But the main plot line, "will Nadia choose Jay or Laurie" dragged while all the other family shenanigans took place.

And there were shenanigans. The sister Claire was just plain mean and her possibly redeeming moment fell flat. The strong glamorous grandmother was suddenly revealed to be cowardly, impetuous, and wishy-washy. I enjoyed the younger sister, and the budding relationship between James and Annie, but they did not make up for the other relationship weaknesses.

In addition to the problematic characters there were parts of the plot that went nowhere, like Laurie's possible infidelity with Suzie, merely confused things rather than adding any true depth to the story.

I've loved Mansell's other books so much I hate to give this one such a low rating, but it just did not live up to expectations.

Another perfect summer read! Jill Mansell mixes family shenanigans, tough issues, difficult exes and a lovely romance to get Nadia Knows Best. Perfect pacing keeps the reader engaged throughout and a wonderful mix of both lovely and irritating characters abound. This was my first Mansell and she didn't disappoint! Witty banter, family squabbles and of course an exploration of what love really is (from the 20-something Nadia and her grandmother Miriam) made this another great chick lit read.

NOTE: I recieved a complimentary copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

The Premise
Nadia Kinsella meets Jay Tiernan during a snowstorm where they’re forced into spending the night together. In a non-sexual way of course. Of course she's tempted. But Nadia’s already met The One. She and Laurie have been childhood sweethearts, but she doesn’t see as much of Laurie, who is a model/actor and of course, unbelievably gorgeous. So, nothing happens between Nadia and Jay...but then Laurie dumps Nadia, and the fun starts.

My Thoughts
Mansell’s stories are strong because of the worlds she builds with fully realized characters and this one was populated with alot of unpleasant ones. I would have liked more time getting to know Jay, and seeing his POV, which would have helped things along. I feel that it’s clear he’s the one you should root for, but you don’t spend anytime with him and frankly he gave up pretty easily once Laurie was back on the scene, which I didn’t like. Also, Clare is a horribly selfish, mean, nasty cow that you don’t get to sympathize with because there’s never a moment where I understand why she’s horrid. Even when things go wrong for her, I was pretty glad because she doesn’t deserve any happiness. The rest of the family are more sympathetic, and I liked Annie/James and Cal/Tilly’s scenes.

Nadia’s not bad, but she is a bit flighty - reminds me in passing of a Bridget Jones type emotionally, but considering her sister she’s much more sympathetic.

The Bottom Line
Probably my least favorite of the Mansell stories I’ve read so far, mostly due to the secondary characters, well mostly Clare, and lack of affection for them. However, while I didn’t love it, I didn’t hate it either. I just wouldn’t recommend it be your first.

I have read all but one of her titles available on Kindle. This might just be my favorite. All members of the blended family has their own intertwined story. The characters are well developed and delightfully flawed. Once again Mansell's sense of humor shines through all.

this is the kind of book where, at the end of it, you go "aww"....and wish for more pages, so you can find out more, spend more time with, enjoy more of the company of the delightful family rendered here so lovingly. well, i had that reaction, anyway. and i have seemed to have that same reaction to each jill mansell book i read!

this is book #6 (?) of jill mansell's books i have read so far. waited forever for this book to go on sale. and after waiting for 2 years, it did. well, it was worth the wait. this author has the uncanny way of allowing you into the lives of people who start out, at the beginning of the book, as strangers, and who, by the end of the book, you swear you've met somewhere and would love to be invited over for tea in their lovely english garden.

i love the british charm of these books; there are certain brit-speak sayings/products/slang/places/personalities here that you can fairly easily solve with context clues. jill mansell's books usually take place in the country, as opposed to the city, areas of england, so: extra charm, and lots of details an urban american just loves to hear about.

there was a very large cast of delightful characters here, a larger cast than normal for these books. there is a sort of formula here, for j m's books. but it's a winning one: silly but wonderful girl meets boy, they meet cute, then drama ensues. in-between, there is plenty of adorable/funny/sweet/charming/poignant dialogue to read, surrounded with knowing nuggets of thoughts about human nature, and wonderful character interactions.

if you guess the end of the book, who cares? it's the journey, and with this author, you are guaranteed a lovely visit, with charming stops along the way.
