Did you know that God has specially named you?

Each one of us is born with a God code a strand of spiritual DNA that hardwires us to know and serve something or someone bigger than ourselves. But even if we recognize this truth, why do we often feel discouraged and defeated? Why is it so hard to move beyond the pain of our past? Why does it seem impossible to break the cycle of dysfunction and wrong choices?

Respected Bible teacher Kasey Van Norman understands what it means to be a prisoner of the past. Refined by the fires of suffering and heartache, Kasey is an inspiring example of God s grace and intervention in a life that seemed beyond redemption. In Named by God, Kasey shows what it means to find our true identity in Christ, to live the surrendered life of the redeemed, and to find life by losing it.

Are you ready to dive into the depths of God s grace and discover the exhilarating freedom that only he can bring? Are you ready to stop talking about a life filled with hope and peace and start living it out on a daily basis?

Join Kasey Van Norman on this transforming journey and learn what it means to move beyond past hurts, bring power into your present circumstances, and ignite a victorious faith for your future. --From the Back Cover

Named by God is a straight from the heart account of God's love and redeeming grace. Kasey's journey through the highs and lows of her life are a true testament of God's promise in Isaiah 61:3 of a joyous blessing and a crown of beauty for ashes. I really appreciate her raw and transparent honesty and love the hope she has allowed God to instill through her story of heartache and triumph. Knowing that God has a special name uniquely reserved for each one of us, really touched my heart. I too can imagine the trumpet's call and the wonderful sound of hearing Him call the name formed just for me so long ago. Like a piece of dark chocolate, bitter and sweet, Named by God will bless anyone that loves the transforming grace of God's hand. I'm thankful for the truths of love and forgiveness that He has written upon my heart through Kasey's story and continue to praise Him for the rich blessings that come from trusting and believing in Christ through ALL things.

Kasey Van Norman is a woman whose life represents a 360-degree display of God's grace and creativity. I'm sure that those who know the woman she is today would be shocked to read about her past. Kasey has experienced so many difficult events in her life including date rape, addiction to cutting, sex, and eating disorders, a miscarriage, infidelity, and a cancer diagnosis. Yet, she's emerged stronger with a burning passion to help others.
I was extremely inspired by Kasey's story. Honestly, I don't know if I could have gone through the things she experienced and emerge with such a strong faith. The layout of the book was nice and the writing style was very conversational yet deep. Kasey's theology was well-thought out and practical. I wanted to give Kasey a high-five because she used the Bible in her writing. She didn't just give a reference for me to flip to in my Bible. (Quite honestly, if she had, I would probably been too lazy to look them up.) She typed out the verses for me to read. I didn't have to carry around my Bible when I went outside or in the car to read. The verses were right there. Her book put God's words first and human words second. I was thrilled when I saw that Kasey had done that.
Kasey's story has the power to change lives. I learned a few lessons from her book. One was that truth is more loving in the long run than shallow encouragement. People want truth rather than superficial compliments and words that ooze with "holy vocabulary". God's word is a lot simpler than we (Christians) tend to make it. The good stuff, the soul-searing truth, needs to be spoken clearly to those who are crying out for answers. When someone's going through something tough, they need more than empty human words. They need visible displays of love and the word of God.

This book is a wonderful resource for those questioning their relationship with God. We are currently doing the Bible study based on this book and this book has been a wonderful addition to the study. It's a book you will want to keep, highlight key areas you relate to, and read over and over again.

I was captured in the first chapter. Even though our stories are different, Kasey speaks in a way I realize that we're all in the same story. We're all apart of God's story and He wants us to know that nothing surprises him. I was so inspired, I called three of my friends and said "You need to read this with me!!!" I had to order the workbook, and even ordered another as a Christmas gift for a dear friend. It is THAT worth it!! Thank you, Kasey for letting us into your life.

It is because of my struggles over past mistakes and poor (okay, bad) choices, that I love this book. Kasey Van Norman has experienced many things similar to my past, and yet she's a born-again, dynamic Bible teacher who clearly loves Jesus and walks in truth today.

Here are some quotes that I found meaningful:

"...as long as I continued to view my life from a reactive point of view--'They did this to me, and as a result, I did that'--I was still making the story about me...and completely missing God!"

"No other person in this world can tell you that a particular circumstance in your life was not, or should not have been, a tragedy. If it was suffering to you, then it was suffering."

"If you find yourself tempted to categorize a particular sin in your life or in the lives of others, or it you find it difficult to believe that God has called you to forgive, allow Matthew 6:14-15 to hit your face like a bucket of cold water"

"Galatians 5:22-23 tells us that the Holy Spirit is the one who equips us with everything we need for total transformation...we have no excuse not to change!"

I encourage anyone who would like some raw honesty coupled with Bible-based encouragement to read this book. Thanks to Tyndale Publishers for a free copy of this book. My review is my own opinion, and I was not required to say something positive.

This book is like a fountain of good news for any who may be feeling for whatever reason that God does not have a place in His heart for them. Kasey has just the right approach to make all feel welcome into the kingdom of God. She makes the reader aware of all her struggles, failures, denials and how God in His love lifted her back up and put her in place to be a vessel worthy of His use.

This is a book that will bless you as you turn the pages and realize the love God has for Kasey and for all who have sinned in various ways that cause separation from God. You will have realization that her story, perhaps more extreme than some people's stories by human evaluation, is relevant to all people. The story of Paul in the Bible, the one who declares himself to be chief of sinners, in some ways touches us all in our human way of thinking that, "Well, if God can save him then there is hope for me." Kasey lets herself be used in like manner in order for people, women especially, to feel the power of hope in salvation through this unequaled God who loves sinners enough to save them through the blood of Jesus

I received this book through the author and publisher without obligation to give a good review. I honestly believe in the message of this book and think it will be an excellent Bible study for many women, especially for those who are in their childbearing years. This book goes deep to show the love of God which conquers all.
