I am surprised at the number of mediocre reviews for this splendid game.I loved it! I am rather amused at the "10 years old and up" on the cover..they had probably no idea that "up" in one case at least is aged 76, me- and that's really up.

The graphics are very fine. The puzzles are hard and you are obliged to play several games with the little girl in the story, Jane, in order to obtain certain tools to proceed. These games within the game did get a bit tedious, but I am was hopelessly slow at "Petroglyph Punch" and the like. And it took me five tries to gather up 13 ghosts milling around the manor. When something is timed I panic. I'm like my cats who vanish if I even look at the door where the vacuum cleaner is kept.

The voice acting is very good, and if the British accents aren't authentic, so what. The images of the characters are very well done, the gestures and mouth synchronization very natural. Mrs. Drake is particularly good, she's rather like a watered down version of Mrs. Danvers.

I could not have finished this game without the help of a walkthrough. The puzzles are hard. But the fact that I always cheat like mad doesn't bother me ar all and I never have felt that the game is spoiled one whit with the heavy use of a walkthrough. If you can finish this game without assistance, more power to you. But take it from an old lady- this game is fun and if you have to sweat a bit here and there, that's part of the whole adventure game enchilda.

I was hoping for a game that would be similar to Message in a Haunted Mansion, or Treasure in a Royal Tower. Boy was I wrong! This game was full of tasks! I was going back and forth and still progressing slowly in the game. The plot was boring and I wouldn't think that even a teenager would find it fun, much less a child. There was very little to explore in this game, and you ran back and forth and had to do mundane puzzles to finish the game. And the game was a bit... creepy. I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone. I have played 5 Nancy Drew games, and I loved them all except this one.

Playing Nancy Drew detective games has recently become a time consuming habit of mine, and all the games in the past (except for the first) were really interesting, addictive, and fun. "The Curse of Blackmoor Manor" was a great story, but the puzzles, time limits and continuity was not very good.

I know that the production of this game was actually rushed because there was such a high demand for it, which is maybe why it ended up being disappointing. The story was the spookiest and most supernatural of all the rest, and that was an excellent move by Her Interactive. I played on "Senior Detective" level, which is the step up from Junior. If you have never played adventure games before than be ready to play at Junior level because there are many tough requirement you wil have to pass on Senior. I am very good at typing and pc gaming, so I think that is why I was able to pass a certain test/puzzle in the game that looks like it would be very difficult if I were not.

I only recommend buying this game if you are used to Nancy Drew games and are advanced at puzzles and gaming. Try "Message in a Haunted Mansion" or "Secret of the Scarlett Hand" instead.

This was my favorite game so far. The plot was spooky and engaging, and the characters (including a talking parrot!) were so fun. I loved the mystery. Despite what people may say, this was not too scary, but I did have a few fun "aahhh" moments.

What I loved about this game was the abundance of things to click on, play with, and look at. There were places to explore and secret things to discover and open. I think it definitely takes on the character of some of the earlier games.

I would play this game if you an experienced Nancy Drew player, because there were spots where I was just sitting at the computer, contemplating, for half an hour (I don't allow myself cheats unless for impossible puzzles, like the one above the door, (which by the way you can accomplish by moving one tile, then stepping back, then moving one tile, then stepping back, and again and again until you will come back to the puzzle and it will be solved). It also has a weak ending.

Overall, it is engaging and interesting with much to discover and explore, but towards the end the amount of puzzle work became overwhelming at times, and it had a bad ending. But, I would definitely play this great game.

i have played the game awhile...i am not even half done..very interesting...lots to do in this game...again you use the phone to use the web and call many people that you need to talk to...the puzzles are very intense...mind boggling, but if you think about what is going on it's a piece of cake...
love the manor...the people you meet and interact with are unique...l am enjoying this game so much...lot of twists and turns...i wont let no secret out..it a game you have to get to understand how the mystery goes....
oh one thing i must tell...you get to use the house phone and call the local pub/diner to order food...the story takes place in england...so things are sooo different..i have ordered everything on the menu...remember bangers and mash...are not hotdogs and fries... simiular tho....
i know people who buy this game will enjoy...it's a must have...well worth the dollars i spent...

This game is so much fun! We're not done quite yet but this is a great installment in a very good (overall) series. It is pretty hard at points: I recommend playing with someone else. Sometimes two heads are better than one in figuring out a puzzle. My strategy is to play until we reach a frustrating point and then stop. Sometimes time away will bring a new perspective. I'm by no means a novice at this type of game but this one keeps me challenged and interested. Can't wait to find out what's really going on.
