Today we are going to dive back into social media because who we are on-line impacts the odds of our success. Whether we like it or not, engaging on social media and cultivating a following is going to massively impact our professional success (or lack thereof).

All righty. So we have spent a couple of posts talking about getting our head right when it comes to doing this writing thing. Once we get our heads in the game, then the practical How To advice gets a heck of a lot more mileage. Today we are going to talk about the writing of the actual novel.

The single greatest challenge you will face in trying to accomplish anything great is FEAR. FEAR is nothing to be underestimated and we need to learn to manage it if we want to succeed. I remember being a kid and Dune was one of my favorite movies. At the age of ten I memorized Paul Atreides’ mantra:

I know a lot of authors feel overwhelmed in the digital age of publishing and that is perfectly understandable. But today I would like to pan back and maybe offer a refreshed perspective to keep you pressing.

Blog postIn 1969 a singer named Peggy Lee published a song titled, “Is that all there is?” She sings, “If that’s all there is my friends then let’s keep dancing let’s bring out the booze and have a ball.” Today is the one year anniversary of my husband’s death. and it’s hard for me not to ask myself that same question, i.e. is that all there is?

The Owl and the Pussycat: A Shifter Romance
Oct 9, 2016
$0.99
This is a stand alone short story.
A Russian eagle owl and a domesticated Siamese cat become accidentally mated. Clan elders want the situation corrected immediately because "cats and birds cannot mate." However, the shifter pair did not expect a sentence of spending a whole day and night in the Fraflungg Valley with its evil denizens and the psychotic creations of mad wizards. The elders expected only one survivor. But both survived and armed with Ophelia’s “shiny things,” they start a new life where they prove that cats and birds could become mates and more.

Separated from their mother and lost in the woods, two runaway slave children travel the Underground Railroad in search of both freedom and a forever home.
Thomas and Cassie’s mother hadn’t included Old Red in her plans to meet the Underground Railroad conductor. At the planned meeting time, the master’s old hound dog ripped her plans to shreds as surely as he would her two children. Using herself as a decoy, the family separated. Her final words to Thomas and Cassie were to follow the river and stay in the water to hide their scent. They did as she instructed not knowing if this would be the last time they would see her, or that this night would be the beginning of a long, dangerous journey with an unknown future.

Shine
May 23, 2013
$2.99
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matt 5:16
The Bible tells us we need to "shine before men," but what does this mean and how do we do it? In Shine: How to Walk the Talk, Nancy Segovia lays out a series of simple steps you can to take to walk the talk: to love God above all and your neighbor as yourself. Using parables, folk tales, and struggles from her own life, she provides uplifting insights into the Christian walk that can make your first steps easier. She examines scripture for clues on what it means to shine, how to reflect God’s love, and what to do when the muddy messes of life blot out God’s light in you. You will relate to her failings, those "Duh!" moments when spiritual understanding begins to dawn. Most important, you will learn how to apply that understanding; you will learn how to turn your talk into your walk and how to help others to do the same.

The word "courage" is not in Abbie Brookhart's vocabulary. Years of abuse have taught her that it is better to hide than to fight. When her husband's abuse turns murderous, terror forces her to flee. Desperate, she accepts help at a women's shelter in Denver, intending to start over. But the echoes of abuse that whisper in her heart saying, "you can't trust anyone including yourself," and "love hurts," continue to thwart her attempts at creating a new life. As she overcomes one obstacle after another, she discovers an untapped well of courage, and learns of a new, unexpected source of love and hope. When her husband tracks her down, intent on killing her and her daughters, Abbie must put into action what she has learned. Unfortunately only time will tell how well she has learned these new lessons - and time is the one thing she doesn't have.
