I was on my way to the nearby big box store to buy a replacement for my 15 year old Weber Performer, which had been used nearly constantly since new. The only hesitation I had was that the new Webers no longer came with a stainless steel table. I did not like the plastic one and the painted metal just didn't do it for me.

On my way, I passed a local fireplace / grill center and there in front was a great looking kettle style charcoal grilled with a stainless table. I stopped in, looked it over and after speaking with the owner of the establishment, drove home with what appeared to be a superior product.

The first thing I noticed were the stainless table (why Weber discontinued theirs is beyond me), and a height adjustable, heavy cast iron grate, which seemed to hint that this was a quality product.

I lit the grill to burn off any residual paint or other nasties, and was pleased at how it held temperatures. The cast iron grate seemed to be a nice upgrade.

My first cooking experiment was a simple pork tenderloin to gauge how this grill performed and all seemed well at first. The grill is a bit hotter than my Weber with the same amount of briquettes I usually use, but I figured I can adjust. The tenderloin came out satisfactory.

I noticed after cooking that the huge flame logo in the center of the cast iron grate collected a lot of drippings that are difficult to clean, and do not burn easily off with subsequent lightings. Really an unnecessary PITA.

I became really concerned when after one week of ownership and three uses, I noticed the nice shiny pod on the lid which holds the thermometer was a cheaply made metal with a shiny paint applied.

A few notes about this grill -
1) This is a *heavy* grill. It is a two man lift. I ended up having to unbox it and carry it in pieces to the backyard. The weight will also exact a toll on you if you are assembling this yourself.
2) Consider the assembly instructions to be a mere starting point. They are neither accurate or complete. Tools that are required are not listed. Required tools don't fit in some of the areas they need to go. There are parts in the box, (the handle) that are not on the instructions. Also, fitment is extremely tight, particularly inserting the top ring into the bottom of the kettle. I had to set the bottom out in the sun for a bit (100 degrees in Texas right now) to get it to expand a little and accept the top.
3) The wheels on my unit differ from that shown on the product page. On mine, all 4 wheels are the smaller ones. One of the wheel housings popped rivets out the first time I hit a bump when moving the grill. Did I mention this thing is heavy?
4) Heavier materials result in better heat retention. I did an empty grill "burn-in" run with a full chimney of charcoal. The grill was still at 650 after an hour. I had a hard time getting the temp under 400 with the lid down. If you are doing a lower temp cook, I'd recommend either a minion method fire or half a chimney, max.
