This is a fascinating contemporary account of the first convict settlement at Botany Bay in Eastern Australia by one of the first officers to do a tour of duty there. It's treatment of the aborigines and white man's first contact with them is particularly sensitive. It's been an essential reference for historians and historical novelists, cherished for its authenticity.
Watkin Tench gave us a detailed account of the trials endured by the disparate group of settlers.
