Being a long time gamer and fan of the Naruto series, character creation is something many fans have been wishing for in a Naruto game. Now the character creation isn't the greatest, but you can still have fun with it no doubt. According to the game, there is about 4000 items to unlock from clothing to weapons to accessories. That's a whole lot to unlock and it gives you options to play around with your character and classes(Attack, Range, Defense, and Healer) once you do start unlocking. But it is a lot of the same items, like recolors and such just with different buffs (which I have no problem with but I know some might). I'm no where near unlocking 1000 items let a lone 4000, so there is still a whole to be discovered in that category.
Other than that though, the game really feels unfinished when it comes to the content of the game. It is mainly focused on PvP, but there is only 4 game modes and only 2 of them are available each week. I have had my fair share of fun, especially if you're playing with friends, the game can be lots of fun. The combat (although simple) the fast pace style may take some time to get use to, but once you get the hang of it, it can be an enjoyable time. Now what ticks me off about the online the most, is this game was meant for PvP team based multiplayer but the servers and matchmaking is just horrid. One can be waiting for what feels like an eternity to find a game, and it's not because people aren't playing, the servers and matchmaking is just not good.
So if you're tired of the online PvP and want to take a break, what is there to do? Well, there are VR Missions (the only offline mode) which is a cool concept, but there is just a lot left to be desired as the missions can get old really quick and you barely get anything rewarding out of them other then unlocking new masters after some missions and maybe the occasional scroll which might unlock you an item that you may like. But barely any exp for your level or masters level. You do get a lot of in game currency, but it's useless because even the store in the game is limited with items, you'll do most of the unlocking by opening up your scrolls.
Speaking of masters, grinding out your masters level is one of the only ways you'll unlock most of the moves available (currently) in the game. There are the occasional moves that you can only unlock by playing a class a certain amount of times. Now this may not be a problem, but once you're done with all you're masters levels (there is about 15 characters from the series who are the masters) that is pretty much all the ninjutsu in the game. Game wise, I guess it's a fair amount of moves but the Naruto verse is so big, I honestly feel like there could have been more.
Oh yeah, and about the missions, I'm not even done with them all but once I reached around 45% completion and was ranked to a chunin for the VR Missions, the credits rolled after a couple of dialogue scenes.....What? And I couldn't even skip it. A random point out, but it's little things like this that makes the game just feel unfinished. A credits roll mid way through the missions mode? It just doesn't make sense.
I'm giving the game a 3 stars because like I said at first, I honestly have a lot of fun playing the game with friends ( when we're able to find a game) and even solo, now that I'm use to the gameplay, I tend to enjoy it playing solo as well at times. But the game has way too many flaws to give it anything higher.
I know there is going to be DLC later, but if this game doesn't receive sometype of update with more content and patch for it's servers, unfortunately it will just die off in a couple of months or maybe less. Especially with all the new games coming up, and even another anime related game like Jump Force where they added the option to create your own character too. It's a shame really, because this game could have been the Xenoverse of Nartuo, or heck even in a category of it's own.
My problems lie with the the other aspects of the game. At the time I am writing this, there is not single player campaign in the game. Instead, you are given several side missions by NPCs in the hub area to complete. Several of the side missions unlocked later in the games are copy and pasted from previous missions with only minor changes. There is no private rooms/lobbies in the game to play with your friends. This is on top of several poor design choices in the game. For example, the NPCs that give you quest in the hub world are not marked on your map. I was confused about what was going on until I looked up the info online. On top of that, sometimes the NPCs that give quest don't spawn properly. This happened to me twice and I had to restart the game in order to fix it (I have also heard that playing a online match can fix the problem, but this is still an issue).
This game had the potential to do so many cool things, but falls flat in several different areas. If you are interested in picking up this game, I suggest waiting until the price has dropped.
The character customization is very limited. There are a ton of different equip able outfits, but most of them are just re-skinned variants. Many of the weapons have similar attack styles as the other weapons. Want to be a healer and use Zabuza's sword? You can't... Want to be an attack type and use the demon wind suriken? You can't... Even jutsu's are class limited.
The game balance is pretty atrocious. It didn't take small and shrinking community long to figure out the Attack type has an undodgebale, unguardable, no skill, multi kill ultimate move. Some of the abilities in the game are nearly useless, some are game braking. You can actually cannot be beaten in a 1v1 situation if you are playing a healer, and defense character can carry a game.
Even though there are some terrible problems with balance and limited customization, there is still potential for fun with this game... The biggest problem was, and still is, the servers. The game can be very laggy, but disconnects are RAMPANT.

It would be nice if additional game modes were added in the games future, but overall the game is off to a good start.
P.S. I've also yet to receive my pre-order bonus code.
