Editorial Reviews

2013 release from the Pop/Soul vocalist. Yes--or in this case, s¡--Natalie Cole's first album in Spanish includes a duet with her late father. And like "Unforgettable," the song that won a Grammy Award in 1992 and foreshadowed today's holographic performance trend, the black-tie rumba "Acercate Mas" ("Come Closer to Me") will pluck at heartstrings and transport fans of Nat King Cole-in this case to '50s Havana, where he learned to sound out the lyrics for Cole Espa¤ol, the first of his three Spanish recordings. Natalie Cole en Espa¤ol features some of the same numbers covered on those historic albums, and other romantic evergreens familiar to international audiences. Andrea Bocelli joins Cole on "Besame Mucho." Produced by Latin hitmaker Rudy Perez, the set also includes contemporary classics: Juan Luis Guerra's enduring '90s hit "Bachata Rosa"-featuring the superstar Dominican artist-and "Oye Como Va."

I LOVE this album! Natalie Cole is classic and her style is timeless. Listening to her sing in Spanish is captivating. Although I do not speak Spanish, I feel every word she sings. It is refreshing to have music that is romantic, soothing and has such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The duets are great and the musical arrangements are perfect. The feeling of an era gone by is instantly brought back with each song. Truly a breath of fresh air!

i give Natalie Cole Props for making this album and going against the Musical grain just as her father did. the arrangements compliments her voice and she is well served here. its very listenable and it doesn't sound trendy. one nice well crafted album. she never gets her due as a versatile artist and she has been doing this for years.

Natalie is amazing! How many vocalist can sing in as many idioms as she does, Jazz, Latin, Pop, R&B, and be really as top notch as she is? What a sweet voice. On this CD I would have liked to have heard more than one duet with her dad, Nat King Cole, rather than the guest artists. Here are Classic Latin tunes and a surprise John Lennon & Paul McCartney classic ballad sung in Spanish. (Most folks don't know that many hit songs in English were originally Spanish like, 'You Belong To My Heart', 'Yellow Days', 'It's Impossible', 'What A Difference A Day Made', and many more.) So, the Beatle's song is somewhat of a 'reverse osmosis'. HEY NATALIE ! I'M WAITING FOR "ESPANOL TWO" !

I first heard about this CD on a NPR radio interview where Natalie talked about the new CD. They played some short clips of the CD during the interview. As soon after, I decided I had to have this CD. I am not disappointed. This is a great CD. The songs are all great Spanish classics and Natalie does a great job interpreting them. They brought back old memories of my early teenage years while I lived in Honduras when my heart was still young and full of dreams and illusions. I love each one of the twelve songs. The songs are so movingly nostalgic and utterly romantic. Beautiful!

"I cannot begin to express my pride, joy and pleasure as I embark on this, my first, Spanish recording." ~ Natalie Cole ~

Natalie Cole continues to honor her famous father's legacy through her hit albums Unforgettable, Still Unforgettable and now this album of pure Spanish music titled "En Espanol." She confidently tackled something out of her territory by recording an all-Spanish-music and she glowingly passed it with flying colors of red, crimson, scarlet, ruby, cherry, rouge, and "rojo" which are the dominant colors of this extraordinary album.

One admirable musical trait that Natalie Cole possesses is that she is willing to stretch her boundaries to create a unique recording which proves to be another artistic addition to her impressive discography. With the support of David Foster, Humberto Gatica and Rudy Perez as co-producers, guest artists Andrea Bocelli, Chris Botti, Arturo Sandoval, Juan Luis Guerra, Arthur Hanlon and the inimitable voice of Nat King Cole, Miami Symphonic Studio Orchestra and all the musicians involved in this outstanding project, this album promises a very enjoyable musical outing. The arrangements and interpretations are perfectly attuned.

I am a black female and decide to try this new CD bucz, I've always been drown to the Latin music even though I don't know or speak the language. I've always loved Natalie and this new CD is outstanding. While this CD is so relaxing as well as very romantic, you don't even notice the different language becz it takes you there... I gave it 4 stars because it would have been nice if the lyrics in the booklet were in the English language version as well. Great Job Natalie and welcome back, we missed you!

I was unsure if I would like this disc as I had a bit of a prejudice remembering her late great father's entry into singing Spanish songs on Cole Espanol. I enjoyed the samples I listened to first I so bought it. I was not disappointed at all. This is not an easy undertaking, especially considering she is not a native speaker and will always be unfairly compared to her father and for that reason and coupled with the music give her 5 stars. Her father, Nat King Cole knocked it out of the park with his smoky, velvety rendition of "Acerca te Mas" originally on vinyl but on a modern compilation entitled Mis Mejores Canciones - 19 Super Exitos and when they pair up on this song it is joyful to hear. Through the magic of mixing her father's version and her own the result is not unlike their pairing on the song "Unforgettable" from Unforgettable. Natalie's voice compliments her father's and to my ears defers to her father's greatness and memory. She is subdued as though to not out "Cole" him. By contrast her voice soars on "Manana de Carnaval" as she returns to form highlighting her talents on a song that is part samba part jazz , equal parts soothing vocals by Natalie; it's a very nice entry. "Quizas Quizas Quizas" is flawless in terms of delivering a song that sounds like it is from a different era with it's big band Cha Cha Cha background laying the path for Natalie Cole. "Oye Como Va" originally by Tito Puente ...Read more ›
