Blog postAs you may recall, last year I embarked on a new venture with four other authors. Misty Simon, Vicky Burkholder, Victoria Smith, Allison B. Hanson, and I all started with the same first sentence to write five independent stories.
It was really cool to see that while we wrote wildly different types of stories—from college students to married couples to space pilots—there were some overlapping themes and concepts. And of course, because they're all romances, they all end happily.

Blog postHey, everybody! *waves* Remember me?
I don't like to be one of those people contributing to our ruin due to limited attention spans, but since this blog has been soooo stagnant, it's obvious I've also been corrupted by social media. I stopped having topics to talk about in this "long" form that I hadn't talked about before.
But today I was thinking about superheroes and mutants and other fictional extraordinary abilities and how I've felt about their portrayal2 years ago Read more -

Blog postMany, many years ago, I read a series by Maggie Shayne that contained a really evil villain. Who got a story of her own. That I loved. I couldn't believe I could hate someone so much and then come to understand them and root for them to find some happiness. The skill she used to make me feel that way awed me, and I never forgot it.
So when an author I really liked announced the next book in her series would feature a character she'd set up in previous books as not very likable, I we2 years ago Read more -

Blog postI am really excited to tell you about my new project!
A couple of years ago, I was at a conference with a bunch of authors I know, hanging in the bar after all the workshops and events of the day were done. It was a nice bar. Comfy seats. Most of us don't ever drink, so this wasn't one of those "brilliant" ideas you think better of the next morning. It was still brilliant!

Blog postHere's Laverne, because I can't find Shirley's photo.Spring, the time of birth. We successfully kept Laverne, the prolific mama mourning dove from nesting on our ladder this year by taking down the ladder. We put it back up after we were sure she'd nested somewhere else, and a few weeks later...Shirley was back. You remember Shirley, she was the high-strung robin that nested on the ladder with Laverne a couple of years ago. Blog postThe Color of Courage was released yesterday by Soul Mate Publishing. It's my 22nd published novel, nearly 16 years after the release of Hunter's Song. After so much time and so many books, it's kind of amazing that I can still celebrate firsts with number 22.
1. My First Superhero Book (also the first in the series).
I actually wrote it 10 years ago, before the current boom of superheroes in TV and film. I've always loved superhero romances, but I wanted, as usual, t3 years ago Read more -
Blog postIt's Sweet Home Alabama meets
National Treasure. Who will Zoe pick? How's everyone's 2016 going so far?
I have to say, mine has started SO much more satisfyingly than 2015 in its entirety.
In 2015, I only had one new book release, plus a short story. Okay, sure, I also re-issued three books and a short story or two. And I wrote 150,000 new words and edited over 2,000 pages. But for the entire year, I felt as if I wasn't getting anywhere.

Blog postThis was the first New Year's Eve that we had no kids in the house. It was anticlimactic. We didn't do anything differently, really. We made party pizzas (tradition) and watched some TV. Talked to the girls, who were together up in Boston, cuddling on the couch while they watched Friends and waited for the ball to drop. (My heart squeezes.)
I did some work after dinner, then tried to write enough to make my goal for the year. Which didn't exist until this month, and then became3 years ago Read more -
Blog postThis is how old I am today.I have never been bothered by my birthday. Ever. Thirty and forty were kind of awesome, actually. Being bothered by progression of the calendar is so pointless. And everyone does it, and I always have been one who doesn't like to do what everyone does. I hate generalizations. All of them. ;)
So I don't know why today's number strikes so hard. Not in a bad way, really, except that it's an odd number. I realized I hate odd-number ages four years ago. I was i3 years ago Read more -
Blog postDreams are weird. We all know this. Sometimes they're weird in a make-sense kind of way, or we at least know their influences. Like, Wednesday night I dreamed I was part of the Flarrow team (you know, from this week's The Flash/Arrow crossover). Dreaming about Oliver Queen requires no analysis.
This morning, right before I woke up, I had a head-scratcher.
I was shopping in Kmart. (I never shop in Kmart.)

Blog postThis is not my TBR pile. It's just a picture
of books. I didn't feel like getting my camera
and taking new pictures. #lazyWhen I started writing, back in the early 90s, I was targeting Harlequin series romances. But to decide which series I really wanted to write for, I subscribed to several of them. I couldn't read as fast as I received them, so the piles grew and grew.
Eventually I narrowed it down and canceled some of the subscriptions. Then I started attending conf3 years ago Read more -

Blog postI have been in this business—novel writing, specifically, but all the stuff that goes with writing and publication—for a really long time. Decades. I've written a lot of books, and lived through all the ups and downs of being a published author, with lots and lots of industry changes along the way.
I've also had the opportunity, through my services as an editor, copyeditor, and proofreader, to work with someone special. And I'm so excited that his book is now available for purchase.3 years ago Read more -

1. When did you decide you wanted to write a book?

Blog postEveryone, please welcome today's guest, Alina K. Field! Thanks so much for visiting today, Alina!
I’m riffing today on a theme my friend, author Collette Cameron, blogs about: the Purse Dump. And, since the heroine of my latest novella, Liliana’s Letter, is a proper Regency lady, she didn’t carry a purse, she carried a reticule, a tiny little bag with about as much capacity as a contemporary evening bag.
What is Liliana carrying in her reticule?
