- Reviewed in the United States on April 20, 2007I bought this book to help me identify the flowers I encountered both in my backyard and in a local state park. Happily, I can report that I was able to identify almost all of them that I came across (one Violet variant, the Confederate Violet, was not mentioned anywhere I could see in the book, but a North Carolina State wildflower website helped me identify it). The color photographs are top notch, many showing both a closeup of the flower, and the plant as a whole. Detailed information on each plant is also available, including the common flowering periods, a location range, dimensions of the flower as well as the entire plant, and much more. If you purchase this book, be sure to read this detailed information when identifying a flower; a number of variants are mentioned in the text that are not shown in the photographs. Overall, I am greatly pleased with this book (though it was the only one I could find that covered plants in the south-eastern part of the United States). Highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2024This field guide to wildflowers is informative and detailed. It’s always helpful to have it when I’m identifying flowers on the go. Wish Audubon had one to identify creeping vines, bushes, and weeds as well. Love all their field guides!!

- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2023Really great field guide. Well organized and has terrific photos.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2022I have a few of these books; trees, birds, etc., so I knew this would be a good choice. The pictures are nice, and the reference tables can be especially helpful.
It's also fairly compact and good for putting in a day pack.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2013The pictures are beautiful and useful most of the time, though not all of them have the leaves clear, and the leaves are important in identification.
I like the fact that the pictures are all together, organized by color and shape, because I can look easily at similar flowers and narrow down which one I am dealing with. I saw clearly which kind of goldenrod I have in my yard; the yellow wood sorrel (whom a friend called clover) jumped at me from the page; I keep forgetting the celandine's name, but I can find it immediately in the pictures.
It is a tad too heavy for me to take along while walking or hiking. I am using it at home to check some recently seen flowers, or going backward through the index, to see how a flower someone named for me looks like (Joe-Pye Weed recently).
I give it only four stars because occasionally I cannot find what I am looking for.
I prefer this book over the the Peterson guide, since their black and white drawings do not appeal to me.
I recommend this book warmly to all amateur flower lovers.

This is nice as it is organized mainly by colour & shape and it has great photos so it is very easy to use. It has lots of info about geographical range and where to find the plants as well. Very pleased.

Amazon CustomerReviewed in Canada on December 18, 20195.0 out of 5 stars Sadly oackaging was not good and item arrived broken.
These are great book, the pictures are amazing! Unfortunately, the cover was all damaged, it was left not wrapped at all, but packed loosely at the bottom of the box of the other item, leaving it free to tumble around, and the plastic cover was all broken. I could. Ot send back because it was for a xmas gift, therefore had to give it the way it arrived.
