International Addresses: Magazine subscriptions offered at Amazon.com can only be shipped within the 50 United States, APO/FPO address and U.S. Protectorates. We are unable to process magazines to other destinations at this time. Please contact the magazine's publisher for further assistance.

When to Expect Your First Issue: Magazine subscriptions ordered at Amazon.com are shipped to you by the magazine's publisher. The first issue of a weekly magazine should arrive within 4-6 weeks of your order. The first issue of a monthly magazine should arrive within 6-10 weeks, unless otherwise noted.

Once you've placed an order at Amazon.com, it can take one to two weeks for your subscription to be received and scheduled by the publisher. Your subscription is then added to the publisher's next production cycle and shipped via standard mail. For example, if your monthly subscription was ordered and received by the publisher in November, and the December issue has already shipped, your order may be added to the January mailing. You can find out more information, including how to contact the publisher about your subscription, in Amazon's Magazine Subscription Manager.

Renewing Your Subscription: If you are ordering as a renewal to the same name and address as the current subscription, the publisher will add the Amazon order to your current subscription. For example, if you have 5 issues left and you add 12 through Amazon, you will now have 17 issues left on your subscription. Please note that the expiration date in the Magazine Subscription Manager will not reflect if you were already on file with the publisher. We will work with the publisher to ensure that you still receive all of the issues left on your subscription.

Publication Frequency: Magazines which show "irregular" availability are those which are not published according to a regular schedule. If you place an order for such a magazine, you will receive new issues as soon as they are available.

  • Control your subscription settings anytime using Amazon's Magazine Subscription Manager.
  • If you purchase the auto-renewing offer, your subscription will renew at the end of the current term. Before it renews, we will send you a reminder notice stating the term and rate then in effect. Cancel anytime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Mag, but cheaper elsewhere November 9, 2011
By Saver77

This is a great magazine that has been around for a long long time. We subscribed when I was a little girl, and I loved it! However, you can save money by buying it on the National Wildlife Federation website, where it is only $15/yr, and you get free binoculars to boot!

I have ordered several magazines for kids and this is one I'll stick with. There are interesting animal facts, stories, activities (i.e. cut out book, family fun suggestions), and great pictures. Best of all there are no advertisements! It is simple to read with your child and not overwhelming. I will definitely stay with the National Wildlife Federation series! I highly recommend this magazine for kids 3-7.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic magazine for kids 4-7 November 8, 2011
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal
My daughter has been receiving this magazine for two years. I considered dropping it and getting Nat Geo Kids instead, but Big Backyard is FAR superior, and I will not be letting the subscription lapse.

Each magazine is about 30 pages long. The "cover story" features an animal and everything a child could want to know about that animal. Pictures are wonderful. There is usually some activity like a maze or a "what's different" page, and every magazine has a page that children cut out to make a mini book--a wonderful supplement to the magazine's learning. The magazine also features art sent in by kids ages 4-6 and includes the picture story about Bonnie the Bird and Chester the Chipmunk, my 6 year old's favorite part since she can help me read it. There is always a pull out center-folded poster of an animal and a story about Ricky the Raccoon and their nature adventures and discoveries. Each issue ends with the family fun guide with crafts to make and more books to read. There is not one single ad.

Truly, an A++ magazine that you will not regret subscribing to.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheaper to get from NWF directly November 11, 2011
By Joanie
Subscription Term Name:1 year
This is a great magazine, but I made a costly mistake by using Amazon for the subscription. If you want this magazine, go to the National Wildlife Federation and it will be $15.00 for the year. Lesson learned, I will never get a subscription thru Amazon without checking the true publisher price first.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Magazine October 8, 2012
Subscription Term Name:1 year|Verified Purchase
I've been a subscriber off and on for 11 years now through four grandchildren. Soon the fifth will be ready for his subscription. Some kid magazine subscriptions trigger a deluge of junk mail. Not this company.

Customer reviews and product info helped me decide to purchase this magazine for our grandson; however, I took the advice of one customer and went to NWF website and was able to save $$ by ordering there.

5.0 out of 5 stars WARNING: BB becoming RR Jr. December 18, 2012
By Blinken
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal
I love this magazine for kids too young for Ranger Rick - kids who can't really read yet but will be entertained by the pictures. Just a warning that the issue current shown (December 2012) will be the LAST Big Backyard. (Your subscription will be fine, I'm sure, they're just merging 3 products into 2).

After this issue, Big Backyard is going away and merging into Ranger Rick Jr. It used to be Big Backyard for very little kids, Ranger Rick Jr. for intermediate, and Ranger Rick for bigger kids who have reading skills down. NWF has changed this up a bit and has just two: Ranger Rick Jr. and Ranger Rick, available from here forward. I believe that's why the product description has changed to read Ranger Rick Jr.'s info - but I'm not sure it's clear from the rest of the product listing what's happening with the transition.

I think the only real impact is very young kids, like 3 y.o., will need a little help from an adult if they want some of the picture captions read to them. I liked that I could get a subscription to BB for the younger kid in the household who couldn't really read yet, and RR Jr. to the slightly older sibling - but I still recommend this magazine series as a gift for anyone who is stumped for what to get small children.

They are so excited to get something in the mail every now and then that's just for them, and it really fosters a life long love of nature. They have expanded to have tablet computer tie-ins to the issues now as well. (Even better for the kids near the older end of the age range for RR Jr., who can use it to complete projects that might be beyond younger ones at the beginning or the RR Jr. age bracket.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good magazine for kids who love animals October 22, 2011
Subscription Term Name:1 year auto-renewal
This is a good magazine to get for a preschooler who loves animals, or any small person in whom you want instill a love and appreciation and curiosity about nature. However, I would not sign up for the auto-renewal since the child may be too old for it by the time it comes up for renewal. This magazine would probably be too simple for most children over 5. When they are school-age and up they will appreciate Ranger Rick.

My grandkids, ages 6 - 7 1/2, really enjoy this magazine. It is much better than National Geographic for Kids which has too many ads in it.
