Top Customer Reviews
Software: Traktor DJ (iOS App) 184.108.40.206
+ The knobs are all rubberized. They're soft to the touch.
+ The Line faders have a very nice glide to them. They're not completely loose and offer a bit of resistance.
+ The crossfader is very loose. I can flick it from one side to the other with a finger.
+ The buttons make a "click" noise and have the texture of an Akai MPC pad.
- The deck plate matches an iPad's bezel, but is very prone to smudging and surface scratches. Do NOT wipe this with a dry cloth.
+ AC adapter (with many different plug adapters)
+ Thick guage USB cable (for computer connections)
+ Thick guage USB to 30pin Apple cable (for iOS device connections)
+ Paperwork: card with software and hardware serial numbers
+ Paperwork: instructions
+ A sheet of Native Instrument stickers (for cases, laptops, etc)
- There's NOTHING in the box for newer Apple device connectivity (Lightning port). You'll need the Apple 30pin to Lighting adapter to make this work.
+ Fully compatible with the Traktor Gig Bag. 0 issues. The Z1 fits inside of it perfectly.
The iPad app is magnificent, but a fingertip isn't great for sliders. The Traktor Z1 gives the user more precision over controls (levels, gains, highs, mids, lows, fx) that require finesse.
The form factor is amazing. The app is powerful. This setup is perfect for dj's who don't feel like dragging around equipment for small parties, backyard bbq's, or tailgating.
This would be an easy 5 stars for me if it had a rotary encoder for selecting tracks like the S2/S4.
I've done a bit of custom mapping which I think makes it a lot closer to an all-in-one unit like the S2. Here's my customizations:
Pressing 'Filter On' for deck A or B sets "monitor cue on" for that channel ONLY. Cueing one deck uncues the other. There is no reason to have more than one deck cued on a 2-channel mixer, so I have it running like an Allen and Heath. I use the Filter buttons instead of the headphone cue because they're in the position of traditional cues. This is how the S2 and every other mixer in the world is.
Pressing "headphone cue" A or B now goes to the first cue point and plays. You can tap these to get your track started in sync
Holding 'Mode' and pressing headphone cue A or B will set the tempo of A or B to match the tempo of the opposite deck.
Holding 'Mode' and pressing Filter FX A or B will nudge the currently headphone cued track forward or backward.
Filters are always on. If they're in the center they're effectively off. No need to press the filter on and off button.
Software bug in case NI is reading: Turn the filter on, filter it one way, turn filter off. Return the filter knob back to 12 o'clock. Now turn the filter back on... the filter sounds like it's changing values for a split second, even though it's at 12, which shouldn't affect the sound. Minor annoyance.... with my mapping this is a non-issue.
I LOVE IT !!
