We have two adult, female dogs: a 28-pound, 13-year old cockapoo (Brandy) and a 21-pound, 12-year old miniature schnauzer (Rosie). They suffer skin problems, gas, indigestion and irritable bowel syndrome.

Isn't getting old grand?

The days of eating rich and juicy table scraps are past. Come to think of it, the days of our family eating rich foods has past as well. Anyway, we buy dog food and treats that won't upset Brandy and Rosie's stomach.

On the advice of our veterinarian, we switched to the Natural Balance Potato and Duck Formula Dog Treats after our dogs developed skin problems. We also purchased the Natural Balance Turkey, Oatmeal and Cranberry Dog Treats. Our dogs liked the turkey, oatmeal and cranberry treats but our mini-schnauzer continued to scratch away.

Next, we tried Nature Balance's Sweet Potato and Fish Formula and the Sweet Potato and Bison Meal Formula, which is a grain-free treat with no corn, soy, or wheat. We now alternate between these formulas and the Potato and Duck Formula for both dogs.

Brandy and Rosie receive a treat after relieving themselves in the back yard, so they get 4-5 of these treats per day.

I have been buying this product for over a year. I love that they are limited ingredient treats and my dog loves them too. In the past few months I have been receiving the product in unacceptable condition. Almost all of the dog treats inside the bag are in pieces. It literally is a back of crushed dog treats. I don't know whether the issue is with the company that makes them or how amazon is handling the product; though I doubt even the most careless of Amazon workers would be able to crush and cause the amount of damage there is to the dog treats without destroying the bag. I'm currently searching for a new limited ingredient dog treat.

I try and keep the size of the treats I give my beagle pretty small since he is so food oriented. The size of these treats has more than doubled (see uploaded photo). He still scarfs them down, but now I have to smash them into bits to keep his calorie count down. I tried explaining to him that he was getting more per treat, even though he was getting fewer treats, but it didn't fly. When these run out, I will find something else.

These little treats are perfect for smaller dogs, especially if they have any food allergies or weight issues. They are simply sweet potatoes and fish, very crunchy, and work well as stuffers for Hartz Lil' Devil rubber toys or Kongs for smaller dogs.

I got these to replace the grain-filled Milk Bones we used to buy. Our 20 pound mixed breed seems to enjoy them just as much if not more. I really like that they're grain free and contain alternative protein sources like duck and venison. Overall a really great product and the price isn't too bad, especially compared to similar products on the market.

Do note that these are made for SMALL BREED dogs. They are much smaller than Milk Bones. This doesn't concern me, but if you have a larger dog these would be pretty insubstantial.

Also, these were shipped by Amazon in one of those envelope type boxes and several of the treats were broken. I would recommend buying these in an actual store--I know PetSmart and PetCo both carry them. You would likely be able to get them home in better condition that way.

My dogs are JR Terriers. They are allergic to corn. I have been giving them all varieties of these treats for several years, they are fantastic and fairly economical. A note to JR owners (other dogs too): if your dog suffers from excessive foot chewing, rashes, etc.....before you waste a thousand bucks on allergy tests and allergy shots (the way we did) get the CORN out of your dog's diet. I sure wish my VET had told me that....before all of those tests and shots we gave our puppy for a year....
Nothing gave him relief until I googled around and learned about the corn allergy. Bingo. Practically an instant cure.

My dog loves these treats, at 50 lbs he is a smaller-end of the range specimen of a large breed (Standard Poodle). Many have written here that these treats are not as good for larger breeds -- I beg to differ.

The standard size of these treats is $8 for a 14 oz. bag. The treats themselves are 40 cal / treat.
The small breed size is $6 for an 8 oz. bag, but on a per treat basis the cost is probably the same and the treats are only 7 cal / treat.

My dog requires about 1300 cal / day, and his food is about 420 cal / cup. So if I use the treats *meant* for a large breed to reward my dog for going to his crate before I leave the house, staying patiently while I unload the dishwasher, moving away on command from the hamburger my son drops on the floor during dinner so that he doesn't lose his food, leaving the squirrel right away to come in from the backyard when called, and one other just because I feel like it, then I have to reduce his food by an entire half cup. If I use the small breed treats, I don't have to do anything.

Put another way, these treats are more substantial than a tiny training treat and my dog knows it, but they are still low enough in calories to be used with some frequency for a larger dog. They are not as long lasting as a bone or a chew, but I can give him three of them if I want to make him feel really rewarded and still only be dishing out half the calories of the larger size treat.
