About the Author

Dr. Laurie Steelsmith is a licensed naturopathic doctor, acupuncturist, and practitioner of Chinese medicine and was trained at Bastyr University in Seattle, the nation’s leading center for natural medicine. OK, I must confess, at first I was a bit skeptical when I read the endorsements for this book. Especially the quote on the cover by Dr. Christian Northrup. I wondered if her comments might be over the top, and if the book could live up to such high praise. But I was not disappointed. What she says is true: this book is not only guaranteed to improve your health, it can literally save your life!! This is because what the book has to offer can prevent all kinds of health problems that ultimately can kill you. In step by step detail it shows you exactly how to put your life on a completely different course.

I'm a long time fan of health books, I've read many, and this is the best written overall guide I've found yet. It is just what I've been looking for. At last, a book about health that really speaks to me, and opens up the discussion about health to a larger view. It's written in an accessible and reader friendly style. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that it is only 400 pages. I wanted more!!! OK, maybe not everyone is going to save their life by reading it, but every reader is bound to discover plenty to like in this book, and improve their health, and change their life for the better.

A wonderful book. I love the Chinese medicine here. It is organized in a way that allows you to look at one area of your body at a time. I really like this approach because I will return to it as I improve my health and take care of each part of my health , little by little. I like the first chapter the best so far. I think it really inspired me to make a lot of changes, look at the way I am doing a lot of things in my life that I could do differently. The nice thing about this book is that if you can't remember all the advice you can look it up when you need it. The things I will look up later as I need them are the parts about "what to do for a common cold", "how to treata flu ", et cetera. It has many lists of all the amounts of vitamins and herbs that you need to take, for many conditions. Tons of good infornation. The book is the newest addition to my "essential home library".

I highly (I repeat, HIGHLY) recommend this book! It's full of valuable information you'll need again and again. You can use it as a resource to look up your symptoms or remedies, but it's much more than that. Within minutes of picking it up, it started changing the way I think about my health and how I make choices about health. Because of this book, I've already cured a condition I've had for years!

The first chapter is a powerful lead-in to the rest of the book. It gives you a GREAT overall plan for a total health makeover. Many of us think we're already pretty nutrition savvy, but everyone will find something new here.

One of the coolest things about this book: it's arranged in a series of fresh, fascinating chapters that walk you through every major area of your body. So you can choose what area you need to work on or have problems with, and it tells you how to do a total makeover of that area. While the book is geared toward women, except for a few chapters it's equally applicable to men.

Another very cool thing about this book - it weaves together two kinds of alternative medicine, natural medicine from a Western view and Chinese medicine. The book's most important point may be that if you use both approaches at the same time, (and the book tells you how to do this) you'll be even healthier than if you used just one or the other alone. The book gives you many pearls of wisdom, secrets, and health tips from both of these perspectives that you've never heard before.

I saw this book recently on CNN and heard the author talking about it. I bought the book and must say I was not disappointed. This is just a fantastic book. It really delves into areas of natural health that other books on the topic just don't cover. For instance the area of breast health for women or the part about the health of the pelvis. There's just nothing out there that does such a fantastic job covering women's health as this book does. I am getting a tremendous amount out of this book. I give it an A plus, ten stars.

This book totally changed the way I look at health and well being. For years I've been a collector of health books, kind of a "junkie", and I read everything I can get my hands on, but I knew pretty quickly that this one was different. It is a totally novel approach to creating health, and I think especially where it describes the links between Chinese medicine and western medicine. The entire approach to Chinese medicine in this book, by itself, is something I've never found anywhere else, because it very specifically spells out the differences between the five "health personality" types in a way that I never understood - until now. There are other books I've read that tried to explain this, but I still was confused. These differences between the five types are important, and I believe any reader will be able to discover themselves, and their unique health issues in one of these five types. For me, it was the fire type, and the description was so right on that I felt like I was reading a personal health journal that I had written about myself!

The Chinese medicine alone would make this book superb, but what made it even better for me were the links with western medicine. I love the fact that the book carefully selects the best of alternative medicine (from western medicine), so you get a side by side comparison of alernative western medicine and Chinese medicine that is pretty awesome. Then the book goes on to give lots of detailed steps you can take to make all of this bring you better health. I tried many of the recomendations, and some helped, but others worked wonders.

The book is well written, and it feels like the author is talking personally to you about your health and helping you walk through and solve your health problems.
