I followed the suggestion of mixing 1 part water:1 part paint. The paint is definitely more liquidy than regular paint, but the color is very concentrated. For our project, I wanted the consistency to resemble watercolor. So I did 3 part water:1 part paint. It made the paint more watery, but the color was still beautiful and light - exactly what I wanted. I had my son paint fall leaves on watercolor paper (similar to sketch pad paper).
Then I decided I needed a thicker consistency for our fall leaves painting on canvas. So I went ahead and added more paint (close to 2 part water:1 part paint). I love that I did not have to make a whole new batch of paint, but just add more paint to the existing batch I had already made! The paint was just as perfect on canvas as it was on paper!
Overall, I am extremely happy I decided to go with this paint. It definitely eased my mind knowing that my son wasn't touching all the harsh chemicals in regular kids' paint. As an added bonus, there was NO smell and the instructions on the box says the paint will last for several weeks if covered (my box came with 6 clear, plant-based, containers for the mixed paint with lids).
