A lot of the concepts in this book aren't "revolutionary." DR Di Pasquale presented similar thoughts and practices in his book "The Anabolic Diet" (1995). I was watching an interview the other day by Rick Drasin who used to train with the guys back in the "golden era" of bodybuilding. He was at ground zero, Gold Gym, in Californina with guys like Arnold, Mike Katz, and Franco Columbu. During the interview he started talking about how these guys ate. Amazingly enough it started sounding a lot like the Anabolic diet. They ate "clean meats and fats" during the week and had a cheat day over the weekend.
I've followed the Anabolic diet for over 2 years with good success. This book is a further iteration on the same concepts. I look forward to seeing how Rob's take on this eating style effects my physique.
If you want to know how what you eat effects your hormones, this is the book for you!

It should also be noted that the recommended eating style in the book lines up pretty well with what Vince Gironda (aka the Iron Guru) preached on nutrition back in the day.
I recently re-read this book. It's a true wealth of information. I wish Faigin would come out of the shadows and write a second edition!
If you read this book, and understand the "simple" basics of why and how this method will work, then you are ahead of the majority of fitness trainers and health professionals.
Even if you dont get the science, and just follow the principles..you will still be streets ahead of most people in this industry.
If you are in the health industry, and you dont get this book..basically..your an idiot. :)
This material is not meant to fulfill the extremes of chemicaly induced gauntness or artificial muscle-head aesthetic typically showcased in television and newstands as attractive.
In applying the techniques that are well defined, one will discover a lifetime's practice of a balanced diet (without calorie counting)and exercise (without overtraining)that does not require undue denial/suppression. The common denominator to all of the aforementioned habits(whether as a cause or effect)are hormones. Specifically, insulin, glucagon, testosterone and hgh. It is then no surprise to learn that as we reflect back to the times in our life when we felt most alive, energetic, optimistic and yes, happy, we were most hormonally charged. Conversely, when we were most unhappy, depressed, lethargic, we were hormonally imbalanced, as in our teens (unless you were highly active with exercise, which of course promotes hormonal output). If you are seeking the fountain of youth, look no further than the powerful resources within your own body and supporting/optimizing their natural functions.
As a person who is hereditarily pre-disposed to diabetes and heart disease, this book has provided me with the necessary tools to subvert these formidable life draining diseases. As further testimony, a close friend of mine was suffering from off-the-chart triglycerides and high cholestorol and couldn't understand why. After reading a section of the book on insulin, I realized his daily regimen of Jamba-Juice fruit smoothy was the culprit. Sure enough, as he stopped taking this everday, his levels dropped dramatically. There you have it, factual evidence to support the thesis. Although, don't take my word for it. This could perhaps be the most well-researched/bibliographed book I have ever read, good thing you put that law degree to use Rob. I would sooner consult this book on that basis than any of the complacent medical "professionals" who perpetuate disease containment through synthetics as their methodology to health.
