This is on of Takashi Amano’s earlier works so he was still developing his style as an aquascaper. There’s is a mix of Dutch and Nature style aquascaping and it all feels a bit old and redundant. While I’m a huge fan of Amano and appreciate his work, I’d definetly be happier with a more recent book showing off his most recent works and design philosophies and I did not buy this expecting to see a transition from Dutch style (forest) to Nature style (Amano’s original style). Nonetheless, it’s a keeper.

Some of the most beautiful pictures and arrangements of plants and fresh water fishing tanks. a lot of people say you can't beat the beauty and the colors of the saltwater fish tanks and fish all I can say to that is you don't know freshwater fish tanks. Of course these freshwater fish tanks are masterfully taken care of and arranged and grown to the point where the difficulty might be that saltwater would be easier taken care of but I've gotten close a few times to some beautiful scenery like this in some of my tanks but it's always good to dream that you can get all the way to the perfection of these arrangements and photographs I just wish I had the whole series of books or could afford them right now

Leave your little goldfish bowl behind and go off into the amazing world of natural freshwater aquariums. The images alone are incredibly inspirational, but the information in the back is invaluable in setting the tank up right, the first time - and the purpose of each component. While ADA equipment is ideal for this type of aquarium, there are plenty of other options on the market and you can always choose to create a hybrid of the conventional and the ideal. Despite being some of Amano's earliest works, they're utterly timeless in design.

Bought this as a gift for a friend who's into tropical fish and larger aquariums. I have a copy and have thoroughly enjoyed it and Amano's "plant scapes". Works of art. And the narrative adds chemistry data, and the type of fish habitat replicated. More than just an outstanding photo collection.

Not at all what I expected. contrary to the tile, this is not a book about 'How You Can Make A Most Beautiful Aquarium."
It is, basically, nothing more than a picture book with philosophical discussion and reports of what he saw while travelling the world. The only data in the book are constant repetitions of tank water parameters. How many times do you need to see Nitrites = 0 under EVERY single picture?
I was hoping to see design layouts, which would include the names of plants. Perhaps one out of a hundred pictures identified an actual plant and there were two or three before and after setup pictures. Very few design instructions. The most you will come away with from looking at this book is similar to what you would get from looking at any photographers record.
Ohhhhh ...look at the pretty pictures! Gratefully, I didn't pay the price that this picture book was originally selling for. What a waste.

All of Amano books are extremely beautiful and inspiring. They provide fodder for designing amazing planted aquariums. He uses an approach similar to Japanese gardening and arrangement. He incorporates both traditional modes and natural landscape.
However, I only gave it four stars because Anamo's description of his technical skills and planning is very limited. His explanations require some basic aquarium knowledge like nitrogen cycles, plant and animal compatibility, and basic water chemistry.
This is perfect for an intermediate aquarium hobbyist. It also works as a great coffee table book.

I bought this book because I love tropical aquariums. The book came from an independent seller, was shipped quickly and arrived exactly as described.
This book is a wonderful collection of photographs of the works of Takashi Amano. For each photo there is information given regarding the methods and materials used and the creative inspiration for the work. Also, Mr. Amano shares personal insights into our natural world as seen through the microcosm of the aquarium.
I highly recommend this book!

if you are looking for amazing photography or great inspiration in creating your own little piece of mother nature this book is the one. the reason that i have given 4 star rating to it is because unfortunately the book contains no information whatsoever about the species of the plants used in Amano's creations.

The only thing preventing you from buying this book is cost right? Browsing info/photos online is free, it's also garbage comparing to a photobook like this. You need to examine the photos in detail then you will see what 30+ years of experience produces.
