From the Author
"Nature Scout Emily" is a labor of love, combining both my love of nature and art. I hope that it maybe a source of enjoyment to children, introducing them to the wonder and joy of the natural world, as well as teaching them some survival skills. I have had a number of fascinating encounters with animals simply by being still and observing. I have been circled by a barracuda, gotten in between bear cubs and a mama bear (not advised), had my nose licked by a deer, come upon three baby owls in a tree, and been tracked by a cougar (also not advised). I have learned to listen to the birds. And I have found a calm in the woods which is not to be found anywhere else.
About the Author
Clint Hollingsworth comes by his love of the outdoors naturally: his grandparents Slim & Janie Hollingsworth started the Icicle Island Camp and High Mountain Packers, taking people camping into the Cascade Mountains of Washington state. Imagine camping for a living! The Icicle Island Camp was the family passion and all the Hollingsworths worked the mountain trails of the Icicle Valley near Leavenworth. Having spent a good deal of his time in the woods growing up, Clint developed a certain sensitivity to the natural environment, enhanced when he became a student of the Tom Brown Jr Tracker School, learning wilderness survival and tracking. This led the author to more advanced training from naturalist Jon Young in tracking and awareness, skills which have saved his life in the far backcountry. Along with a fine arts degree, Hollingsworth went on to study tracking under Tom Brown, Jr., consultant on "The Hunted", and holds a 4th degree black belt in ShoRei Shobu Kan Okinawan Goju Ryu karate. He co-authored "Wolves in Street Clothing" with judo and martial arts expert Kris Wilder, and is the author/artist/creator of the long-running post-apocalyptic webcomic (and its attending books, including the full-color "The Scout Trail" for middle-grade and teens) The Wandering Ones at wanderingones.com with over 20,000 readers across the world. He lives in the beautiful Cascade Mountains in Washington state with his lovely wife Suzette, also an author.

2) Type of book : Children's graphics novel
3) Formatting/Editing : Panels with reasonably easy to read blurbs
4) Best/Worst aspect of book : Learned something along the way, liked how Emily's drawing pad was presented in Part Three, all for strong female protagonists, only thing I thought could be better was panel immediately following the free look inside which wasn't of same caliber as remainder of book (transition piece, maybe?)
5) Favorite passage : No favorites tho anytime a survival tip was presented I did enjoy
6) Bottom-line : Mighty curious how this book fits in with the "Wandering Ones" series and may just have to check it out!
I chuckle to myself as I think of a macho young man, who desires to develop his skills in the outdoors, proudly showing off his favorite “Nature Scout Emily” coloring book.
