Directions
Soak the soil discs in warm water, allowing them to expand. Squeeze out the water and place the soil in the biodegradable pots, leaving 1'' from the top of the bag and save remaining soil. Sow 5-6 seeds per pot, as explained in the included manual, with room between each seed. Cover the seeds with 1/4'' of soil. Write the name and sown on date on the plant marker and place in each pot with that seed. Once germinated, follow the included instruction manual to allow ideal plant growth.

Killed the first batch (forgot to water). Killed a second (accidentally used contaminated water). Now on the third batch from the same kit and they still pop up fast and in days. It seems they've forgiven me for killing their brethren.

Bought these to grow herbs for my bunny. Was hesitant on the previous reviews about how some of the herbs never sprouted, but all 5 have been growing for me! I'm so excited. Honestly follow the instructions and it'll be worth it. Sage and parsley did take a while to finally sprout.. but so glad they did, I keep them on the kitchen window for sunlight and air, water them once a day to keep moist. Easiest plants to grow for beginners. I will buy again!

Updated Review:
After hearing about concern the seller reached out to me and informed me of a little issue at their end where mistakenly small soil pellets were placed in these packages and they did immediately pulled those back but as my luck has it, I got one of those. The AMZStuff were really helpful and they asked me to buy a new kit and provided a 100% coupon beforehand so that I don't pay twice for the same stuff. I had few questions as well regarding the kit and they answered all of it in great details. If this kit turns out well, I am definitely going to get more.
Previous Review:
I received this sow and grow kit today and was super excited to start my kitchen garden. I followed the instructions as mentioned to prep the soil but the soil is way too less to fill the pots. The peats given did expand after putting hot water to 4-5 times but not more than that even after 15-20 min. I mashed the soil and when put in the pots it hardly filled 1/4th of it. I had to use 3 peats to get half of two pots which is very disappointing. Just to be sure am doing things right I checked a YouTube tutorial and could see the soil peats in other kits were pretty big and it looked like they would fill the pots.
Alongwith this the seeds were incorrectly labelled, I know how cilantro and sage seeds look like that's how I saw but I don't know how other seeds looked so I had Google them just to make sure I don't follow incorrect pre requisites before sowing seeds.
I would have definitely given 5 stars if these were not the issues. If the seeds don't sprout that would be just my bad luck.

So in theory this is a great idea but some problems arose. I did see other posts about how the soil just got moldy. This is unfortunately true and its killed/prevented 3 of the herbs from growing which is incredibly frustrating. I'm not sure why the other 2 are growing but one of those appears to be dying as well. This is not addressed in the instructions and I'm just disappointed. They should really consider how the soil becomes moldy sometimes and other times not and why it's doing that. Wouldn't recommend...

I love growing things in winter, so this is perfect. A couple of notes: Instead of using a bowl as the instructions say, use an 8-10 oz coffee mug. When I used a bowl, the entire thing had to be strained to obtain the soaked soil. Using a mug was perfect because you just dump the expanded soil contents into the biodegradable pot, reserving 1/2 to 1/4 inch for covering the seeds. I was glad I followed directions and did one pot at a time so that I was able to forgo straining each soil pattie, or worse, I was going to put them all in the big bowl at once which would have thrown off the measuring. Also, using the cup method soaks the soil perfectly with no left over water and no dry spots in the expanded soil if you fill the cup with 8-9 oz of warm water, then put the soil pattie in the cup, submerge a couple of times just to get the water to moisten the top, and it'll expand perfectly. I did put a sandwich baggie around the bottom so that any extra water would drain into the bag rather than over the countertop. I left the bag in place for future watering. Just getting started so may have more later.

Bought it for the office. The kit is well organized, and has simple instruction with it. But I did not use the bio-degradable pots. I bought ceramic ones, with bottom plates in the local garden shop. It recommended using hot water to undo the packed soil - but I just poured a little, and then I broke the soil inside the ceramic pots. Just planted the seeds yesterday. Will see what I get in two weeks. Also, as I use it in the office - I got a little growing lamp. This setup will be my little zen garden at work. Update: I have added one photo, it has been about a week. I am also using a grow light :-) My little office Zen Garden.

Not the greatest. Better off just doing your own research and buying everything on your own.
Reviewed in the United States on March 20, 2018Verified Purchase
You would be better off just buying seeds and soil. The compressed soil is supposed to just expand but it ends up coming apart completely and I ended up needing to strain the soil through a sieve with a paper towel filter. Sure, the containers are nice and it's cool to get the whole set but I feel like its probably going to be the same cost and way less effort if you just buy everything you need from a local plant shop. Also, the instructions for the seeds could contain more. It says to soak some that need a little help coming out of their shells. But when it comes to planting them, be sure to research online first. Some herbs are better just on top of the soil, some only need the smallest layer of soil covering them.
All in all, would not buy again.

All Sprouted!
Reviewed in Canada on November 1, 2018Verified Purchase
At this point, I haven’t started all of the herbs - just the cilantro, basil, and thyme. All of the plants sprouted and are looking pretty cute under my grow lamp. That being said, I’ve really been struggling with mould growing on the soil. They almost seem like they are overwatered but then I check the soil and it isn’t even moist, so I water them again. I’m starting to wonder if the soil is maybe a bit dense/rich for the herbs, so when I water them it isn’t draining properly? I’m a beginner though, so the error is most likely mine.

Not worth it for what grows
Reviewed in Canada on May 5, 2019Verified Purchase
3 of 5 sprouted, however the plants that are growing don’t seem to be very strong (and no thinning was needed as so few seeds worked). Disappointed overall. Definitely not worth the money paid.

Easy to grow
Reviewed in Canada on December 12, 2019Verified Purchase
I had them grow then transfered to a larger pot to grow them all together. Some animals got to a couple of the herbs but they did grow pretty fast during the summer. I will 100% be ordering again in the spring so i can use them this summer.
Side note: The Coriander and Basil grow fast and big. I got to use them multiple times even though I started growing them mid summer. The others took a while longer so I suggest planting them in the spring.

Not fun to plant - but good customer service
Reviewed in Canada on January 11, 2020Verified Purchase
Total pain to try and plant. Seeds are incredibly small and you can't overseed or they will smother each other. Dehydrated dirt is a pain.
**updated* supplier provided a full refund. Good customer service
**Updated** tried the second replacement batch and they just still won't grow. My daughter did them this time and she followed the instructions to the letter. They start to germinate then that's it. Might be fun for a kids toy but don't really expect anything out of this. It's pretty much garbage.

Good idea, but just doesn't work
Reviewed in Canada on October 12, 2020Verified Purchase
I was excited to try this because it seemed easy to use and low maintenance. It was a disaster.
The pots get mouldy even with all the care in the world and the right amount of water and sun. The herbs grew but then just flat out died. Tried again (good thing they give you enough seeds to try another time) in other pots I had, same results. Very disappointed.
