I have found sand particles in every serving of this product. The particles are similar in size and color to the seeds but are angular in shape. Viewed under a magnifier, you can see the quartz. A Google search reveals that, in some areas, the seeds are harvested by striking the stalks against the ground and then collected thereby introducing foreign material. You have to place the seeds in a bowel of water and scoop up the floating seeds to remove any non plant impurities. I will not buy this brand again.

This had lot of sand in it and so had to throw this into trash after i cooked it once. Horrible experience and so am going to look at reviews in Amazon before buying a product.

I thought I had a bad batch. But after buying it again I must give a bad review. Do not buy unless you enjoy crunching on sand every other bite and possibly breaking a tooth!

This is one product that I keep more on hand than anything else in my house. I was only introduced to it about a year ago, but it is extremely versatile.

Boiling - the product must be boiled before it can be used. 2 parts water brought to boil with 1 part quinoa. Bring back to boil and then turn down to simmer for 9 minutes in a covered pot. Turn off and then let sit for 20 minutes. It will finish absorbing the rest of the water and do all it's tricks to get the white threat exposed. It will be soft and fluffy and ready to use. If you can put it in the fridge overnight and then fluff it up with a fork, this is when quinoa is at it's peak. I keep some in the fridge for whatever I want later.

Dinner - boil in chicken stock and add spices to get something like a healthy rice like product. It has a nutty taste that is brought out by the salts. While still hot, add butter, olive oil, garlic, and some goat cheese. Stir gently till the cheese melts.

Quinoa holds a sauce better than just about any rice or pasta product.

I actually bought this at Costco, but disliked it so much I had to review it here too. I wish I'd looked at the Amazon reviews of this before purchasing because the many comments about this quinoa being full of sand or grit are all dead on. I thought I just didn't rinse the first batch enough, so I soaked and rinsed the second batch four times. A little better, but it STILL had grit in it. And I still didn't want to eat it, even though I love quinoa. If you get it from Costco, this is the least expensive quinoa I've seen, but don't be fooled by the apparent bargain.

I don't know if it's me or I'm supposed to wash it, (It says its prewashed) but I randomly get gritty sandiness which nobody ever likes in my bites. Other than that it's pretty delicious and healthy when cooked with a broth. But I hate gritty. Bleh.

I would definitely NOT recommend this product. Stick with Bob's Red Mill or the bulk quinoa at the market. I've found grit and sand in every batch of this I've made and really hurt a tooth on this stuff. I wish they'd pay my dentist's bill.
