Therefore, we use Nature's Miracle which works well as long as you don't try to treat the stain some other way first. I made the mistake of trying many cheaper methods to remove the smell first and, when that didn't work, I bought Nature's Miracle after reading about it on cat forums. NM works on fresh stains but doesn't completely remove the smell of stains that I treated before buying NM. (But it doesn't promise to do that.)
I really like this new bottle with the wand because it lets me get down between the couch cushions (which is where she seems to aim).
BTW, hubby wants to get rid of the kitty, but just look at her! She's a beauty and very sweet other than the peeing on the leather.
I've tried a few different things and have been using a spray that a professional carpet cleaner left me but this is better. It smells wonderful and you can't tell where she went. In fact, I followed the instructions and soaked it a bit longer then blotted and brushed and I think it's taken a great deal of the discoloration that was already there away. I'm going to work on that spot again next weekend to soak it with the wet towel to really try and dissuade the dog from liking that spot. She's come in the room a few time since with me and is curious as to what the smell is but I don't believe it's her favorite scent. Hooray!
Overall, I'm very satisfied and wish I'd known about this product sooner!
Anyway- I didn't have this stuff around at the time, all I had was SpotShot, Animal Carpet cleaner from the rental unit, and good old fashion baking soda and vinegar. After everyone of these was unsuccessful in getting the smell out (it's a dark brown microfiber fabric so I can't tell you if it stained or not) nothing worked.
When this came up on vine we thought- what the hooey- try one last thing before we throw the couch out, what could it hurt at this point? The instructions clearly say not to use any other cleaning method before this one to keep the warranty. Well shoot, guess that doesn't really matter anyway as it's a Vine review. But it did make me wonder if that meant it wouldn't work. I follows the instructions as you would for a fresh stain/odor and IT WORKED!!
Yes, the immediate smell of the solution is strong and you might need to open a few windows while it dries, but it's a pleasant smell compared to cat pee. We soaked the footrest area as stated and then used cotton towels to blot it as dry as I could. I wanted to saturate the footrest to make sure it got down into the cushion, just like the cat urine did. We but a box fan on it overnight to dry and voila!! No more smell.
From the man of the house: my wife is especially sensitive to these animal scents and can't bear them. By far, the worst offense was when we had to be away for a few days and had an acquaintance come by to feed the boys and clean their litter box. Unfortunately, she was hit and miss in her methods and like many cats, ours will not accept a litter box that is crowded with pee clumps and feces.
At some point while we were gone, the cats decided the couch was a better option, at least for urine. My wife went through the roof when she discovered the stains and mess. She found a laundry detergent with biological properties, usually used to wash cloth diapers. We were able to get the cushion covers off, wash them in the machine, and soak the foam and other areas of the couch in the solution. It did not work to my wife's liking. She started talking about replacing the couch.
Then she found another product that is pretty pricey -- much more expensive than this one -- and to make a long story short, it did the trick. However, it is expensive.
When we saw "Nature's Miracle" enzymatic stain and odor remover, we thought we'd give it a try. We still get some smell marking spots -- and one of the cats has been sick to his stomach recently, throwing up frequently (not trying to make you gag, but I found an entire lizard in the pile one morning. Ugh!).
So we've been able to put this product through its paces, and the result has been 1) no more stains, and 2) most importantly (with my wife's super-sensitive nose), no bad smell. The product itself has a strong lemony "clean" smell, which fades somewhat as it dries.
The product is a lot more than soap and scent though. It contains bacteria that creates an enzymatic reaction when it encounters other biological matter produced by your beloved dog(s) or cat(s). To put it bluntly, the bacteria eats the offending pet matter (the vestiges once you cleaned the bulk of it away of course).
We are very pleased with the product! Also, the price is good -- 24 fluid oz (apply at full strength) for $11 with free shipping available.
