"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. Eve is sweet and naive, but determined to break out of the bubble her parents put her in, and Asher is just the friend to help her out. She tries to go slow & chooses a 'tricycle' to date, but Asher really is the only one for her.
I wasn't such a fan of the way Nikki & Abby & the gang try to steer her, even though they were doing it out of concern. It backfired a bit more than a lot. I spent a little bit not happy w/ them, but overall the interactions were good.
And still, I absolutely loved this from start to finish. Some of it goes the way you would expect, but there's a bit of a twist that was really well done. LOVE the relationship between Asher & Eve & love the glimpse we get into the next book, Dex & Remy. : )
The story was good. The girl comes from a Pastor's house. She was homeschooled. I am not a fan because of exactly what the author writes about. A girl who never watched tv, was intimidated by school because she had a limited education and so on. It is her desire to become her own person with her own beliefs that causes her to boldly leave her home to go to college against her parents wishes. She seems fairly smart, brave and curious about allot of things we take for granted.
The guy is a tattooed and pierced guy who looks like a rocker/druggie badass but is really a sweet sensitive guy from the poor side. He is a intelligent astrophysicist major.
This book is filled with a theme of accepting and not judging themes. It is funny to me that the author needs to try to take some of her own medicine too.
Not all Christian are weirdos and not all atheists are the cool smart ones. I liked the first book because of the story. I liked this book mostly. However since this book was as a little more pushy with the author's beliefs I feel the story was a bit tainted. After reading the first book I was excited to read more from this author. Since reading the second not so much which really saddens me. I would have given it a 4 stars just for the writing but the theme got a little old.
There was plenty of steamy scenes that were well written. The author is good at making you feel the angst for the guy too which is not the norm. Same with the first book. I did like that. The guys were pretty amazing.
Eve is a very sheltered freshman. Her uber religious parents managed to home school her and keep her as naive to the world due to their fear of the devil's influence. Disowned by her parents Eve left home to discover who she is and sets herself on a journey of discovery, even if it comes with a few missteps. I often have real world worries about children experiencing this so the subject matter always intrigues me. I believe KM Neuhold did a fantastic job portraying Eve's innocence and her confusion and desire to be educated if not worldly.
Asher, Asher, Asher.... a bad boy nerd (whodathunk that one?!) Tattoos and a playboy reputation dissuade people from seeing the real Asher. A total sweetheart who realizes from the start that he will need to build a friendship with Eve because she is just to angelic for his usual game. Sparks fly and feelings develop. As the story develops we see the side of Asher that it appears only Eve gets to see and it's hard not to fall in love just a tiny little bit. .
I enjoyed reading this story so much. I loved the sweet side to the story but with a hint of danger lurking. Naughty Angel was beautifully written and was really a wonderful book to read. The chemistry between the couple is quite steamy and the nerdiness brings a richness to the story. KM Neuhold has also done an exceptional job creating secondary characters that you can't help but love. I really enjoy the melting pot of this dynamic little "family", Another book that I couldn't put down. Well done!!
