I've had the Nibs before, and they are very good. But a WARNING for anyone wanting to take advantage of the current sale: This is OLD STOCK!

I ordered these a few months ago, and the package received matches the package pictured above (with "Navitas Organics", and "Organic Cacao Nibs" prominently displayed). The expiration date was January 2019.

Fast forward to this week. Just received these today. I didn't recognize the packaging ("Navitas Naturals" and "Cacao Nibs", with only a 'Certified Organics' sunburst to show that it's organic). And when I looked at the expiration date ('best buy' date, to be more accurate), it was shockingly only THREE MONTHS FROM NOW!!

Shame on you, Amazon.

This is very good, it is a must buy if you don't have access to cacao fruit from a tree.
The taste is strong and bitter but you'll enjoy it. It's a super source of antioxidants and good fats, one of the best foods you can consume in order to have a long healthy life.

Also be aware that this comes with the prop 65 statement from California! Cacao, goji berries, maca powder, and sea vegetables, have been found to contain varying levels of heavy metals such as lead and cadmium, however this does not differentiate between the metals found in the soil naturally or the industrially polluted by man. Navitas is a reputable source for organic cacao so do not be discouraged by it. Feel free to do your own research on the subject though.

If you are a cacao connoisseur, I recommend reading the 1 star reviews for a good laugh, most of those guys don't even know what's up.

I have been using cocoa nibs for a period of time and like the Navitas brand best. We all, of course, have heard of the supposed antioxidant qualities of cacao, it's one of the latest big sellers. However, I recently talked to a German homeopathic doctor who told me that actually Cacoa is highly toxic and even more so if raw. I went to the search engines to see what I could find by asking 'are cacao nibs good for you or bad?' Most results praised their food value but there was one which talked of the raw cacoa's toxicity.

and since the writer used to sell and promote cacao and then did more research, and now renounces cacao, I tend to listen and now will do more research into this.
I suggest that anybody who cares about their well being ALWAYS searches and educates him/her-self about the things they put in and on their bodies. If not you, who is supposed to look out for your wellbeing? certainly not the FDA or medical establishment!

Great, healthy, but not "chocolate"

If you're not used to raw cacao nibs, realize that they are not going to taste much like chocolate... They are fermented, so they have a wine-like smell and a sour taste. I don't eat them by themselves very much, but once you're used to them you can (again, they won't taste much like chocolate even though they are the actual, raw cacao beans that chocolate is made from). I make my own chocolate (using organic cacao powder, cacao butter, stevia, chia seeds, nuts, etc) and add these to it. I also add them to smoothies. They are great that way.

The main reason I eat these is that they are raw, unprocessed cacao beans so they have a lot of health benefits. Cacao powder and butter have been processed (ironically, to separate them out from the original nibs), so they won't be as healthy (even if organic). Maybe someday I'll try to make the nibs into chocolate with a mortar and pestle or something, but for now I'l just keep using them as an addition to things. Everything I've used from Navitas Naturals has been great, 5-stars.

My favorite thing about these is the texture. The nibs are just the right size to bite down on and get a crunchy, grainy chew without being too large and dominating over the food like chocolate chunks do in cookies. I'm not sure how they melt down though because I have only tried them raw and in no-bake recipes. Great addition for protein bars, baked goods, smoothies, and more! These can be ground up to make cacao powder. Anyone complaining that these are bitter should understand that this isn't a sweetener. Try any unsweetened chocolate like baker's chocolate or cocoa powder and it will taste similar! But I'd rather have cacao over chocolate for cooking with because it is simpler, and easier to manage taste balance like sweetness and bitter. The problem with adding sweetened ingredients such as chocolate chips to sweet recipes is controlling the taste. Don't forget that raw cacao contains a whole lot of vitamins and nutrients that are lost during the refining process to make cocoa and chocolate.

Get what you pay for! Buy raw ingredients!
