2K’s fan-favorite franchise mode allows users complete customization over their league. Or, skip the regular season and jump right into to the Playoffs.
True-To-Life League Structure & Rules
Both MyGM and MyLEAGUE feature numerous updates to match real-life NBA rules, including many from the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Negotiate player contracts that work best for your franchise and each player, including Super Max & “Bird Rights” deals for elite players, Over-38 contracts for older players, and two-way contracts for younger players. Manage your roster by using the Stretch Provision to minimize the Salary Cap when you waive a player, or develop younger talent in the G-League or by stashing them overseas. Simply put, the most detailed and authentic franchise experience on the market puts you in the hot seat as an NBA GM like never before.

Everyone knows why they added these microtransactions. It makes more money for 2K of course. It is however, greedy to an extreme degree. What these people are doing is about as legally evil as a video game company can get. I sincerely hope this blows up in their face enough that they lose a significant amount of money on the next couple years of games so they change their behavior.
Unfortunately, predatory schemes like this that target young kids (often with access to credit cards they shouldn’t have access to) and those with impulse control issues have been shown to make staggering amounts of money from a small number of people. So, even if a large percentage of people (rightfully) quit buying their games, their CEO’s may still decide this outright morally disingenuous system of monetization will stay. I believe we need to try though, and I won't be giving 2K another dime for any of their video games unless they change this behavior. I hope enough people will join me to make a difference.
Not great, as there are a decent assortment of bugs and glitches in the current build. Online play is far from greatness, and I've recently learned that the latency issues can be solved with the purchase of a PS4 Pro.
Now, I already have one, so it doesn't affect me, but it's going to be difficult getting my buddies [read, 'anyone at all'] to shell out $400 in order to play the game proper. 2K really needs to get their servers under control. It feels as though this lag and frame-rate dropping has been a constant since 2K15.
There are other glitches in the current game, like character archetypes using animations they have no business using. It's bad, but it hasn't killed online for me, yet.
What has been killing online for me are the micro-transactions, and man, are they prevalent. There's nothing wrong with choosing to pay in order to make the game better for one's self, but this game essentially takes the choice out of it for most. The grind for VC is absolute basura, and you can play myCareer [which is trash in every aspect, BTW. No skipping these cringe city cutscenes? Word?] as best as you can, get the highest mark available and get next to no VC. It's a 'Freemium' practice that is taken into art form in where you pay for progress, as the game is too difficult to grind properly at the jump and 2K makes it a priority to frustrate you into purchasing VC.
Now, 2K has always made it a habit to sell VC to its customers, but here it's taken to a whole nother level. Without VC the game is simply too limiting as is. It's a business model that is totally anti-consumer, and should be loathed instead of praised, especially when you're paying a premium for the game itself. Mobile games do this to no end, but it's even worst coming from a triple 'A' developer. Ridiculous.
Problem is, I don't see 2K changing their plan anytime soon. It's probably only going to get worse from here on out.
The graphics go from great to downright horrid. Shaq and the pre game crew look terrible. They remind me of the animatronic animals that used to be in an old pizza place I went to as a kid. Many players look good, while others look like creatures. The textures are all over the place. Most of the coaches look terrible. I have seen better faces on PS2 games. The halftime looks great from the skybox view, but when on court level, it's terrible. The cheerleaders all look the same, and their movements are bad. The on court play looks pretty good.
The gameplay was fun at first, but the longer I played it, the worse it seemed to be. There seemed to be little to know difference in how many of the players on court would behave. A center shouldn't move like a point guard, and there were some that did. I can't put my finger on it, but something just seemed off with the shooting. This was the first time I had played a 2k basketball, so maybe it's always been like that, I can't say for sure.
My career is a disaster. There are plenty of reviews that touch on that, so I wont beat a dead horse here. What it came down to for me was, the game just wasn't fun. No matter what mode I tried, I found it frustrating and dull to play. I am going to give some serious thought to buying ANY games under the 2K banner now. I don't have any faith in them.
