And, it could never hook up to the internet...not once...ever.
Because we not only were sold a lie, but also the machine never worked right and now is truly just broken, we contacted Neat. We don't want the machine. It is worthless. They will not help us. We bought it through Amazon, so they blame Amazon. But, this is not appropriate as #1. it is a Neat problem, #2 it wasn't an Amazon product - it was a Neat product (sold by Neat thru Amazon).
Then, they said it's been too long. We only had 1 month to make a decision if it was worth it. Ridiculous.
I want my money back. It was a bad sale and isn't making anyone happy and Neat customer service is doing nothe
I was able to set up the Neat Cloud and Evernote accounts without any problem. Unfortunately I experienced issues both with linking the device to my Gmail and Google drive accounts. I also have real concerns with the company and the customer service.
When I called Neat about my problems I was put on hold. Hold times average about an hour. I was 29th in the queue. I managed to use the online support which was inadequate. My 2 questions were (1) why can't I upgrade my firmware to the latest version on the website and (2) why won't the scanner recognize my gmail and google drive accounts. After 30 minutes of very frustrating interaction I got the following responses (1) our servers are down, not sure when they will be back up. (2) Everthing seems to work on my end but let me look into it and send you an email later.
There is nothing else (wireless) like this product and it works great with Evernote, Dropbox, and the Neat Cloud service yet the frustrating customer service and lack of answers leave me pondering if I should return the device.
Neat advertises this as a "CLOUD" scanner, yet it doesn't work!
Here is the email text I just received from their customer support
"Thank you for contacting Neat. We’re very sorry for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. We are currently experiencing connectivity issues which affect adding Dropbox and OneDrive as a destination on the NeatConnect Scanner. An update will be provided once a solution is identified. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve this issue. However, there isn’t an ETA."

DO NOT spend the money on this scanner! It is NOT worth it!
The OCR "capability" of the software is completely worthless for anything but receipts. I've watched all their "help" videos, sent an email with no response and waited in the queue for their online chat for over an hour....
When I scan business documents such as invoices or statements from vendors, there is no apparent reason why the software picks what it does to be the date or amount. There is no way the user can see the fields that it is selecting, why it is selecting those and not others nor try to get it to change.
I would think that a basic requirement of such software would be a display of the document showing OCR fields where the user could identify and name them. No such thing exists, at least so far as any of their "help", videos, FAQ's or instructions indicate.
With no functional OCR capability, this thing amounts to no more than a very, very expensive scanner. I'd give it zero stars if I could.
Only items scanned as Receipts and Business Cards will automatically pull information and populate fields in the Neat software. This is due to the formatting the software is looking for on items. For example, a Receipt will always have a vendor name near the top, a dollar amount near the bottom, a payment type, etc. A Business Card is always going to have a person's name, their title, a phone number, email address, etc.
However, since Document is somewhat of a blanket term, there is no real formatting that will always apply. This is why items scanned as Documents will require you to manually enter this information.
If these items contain expense information, right-click on an item and choose Change To: and choose Receipt.
If you would like to choose what type of item it will scan as, click the Settings button in the top left and change the setting from Auto-Detect to a specific item type.
