"Music from the Motion Picture Nebraska" (18 tracks; 48 min.) brings the instrumental score as composed by Mark Orton, he of Tin Hat (Trio). While most tracks are credited as performed by Orton, there are several that are credited to Tin Hat Trio, and one track is credited to Ron Burger, another founding member of Tin Hat Trio. As the soundtrack opens, we hear "Their Pie", mostly just guitar and accordion, but containing the immediately recognizable leitmotiv, and we'll hear that melody (or a variation of it) pop up a number of times. Another version of this song, called the Hawthorne version (named after the fictional Nebraska town where the main characters meet) appears near the very end of the album. Then comes "New West", one of three from Tin Hat Trio, the original line-up of which reformed for these songs (Tin Hat has remained active in other configurations). Frankly, the other 2 from them, "Bill" and "Night of the Skeptic", sound far more like classic Tin Hat Trio. Even when the movie becomes at times confrontational, such as in "The Ambush", the music remains sparse, as if it is having an out-of-body experience, mocking/feeling pity for the situation at hand. "The Old House" is an achingly beautiful solo piano piece. At the very end, Orton plays a cover of Tom Jones' "Green Green Grass of Home", which is sung karaoke in a dinner scene of the movie.Read more ›
music which whisked me away to another place...don't know where, but love being there and I listen again
and again to go back there. Deeply moved and absorbed by it from the first to last cut.
Hope Mark Orton, Tin Hat, and all other musicians on this album will do more (Please !)--I'll be looking for them.
I can't explain it, but I find this album soothing and comforting. I often have it playing in the background as I do the chores I hate, like paying my bills. I feel better when I hear it.
Better and safer than Valium. Give it a listen.....
