5.0 out of 5 stars A Timely and Critical Read for Corporate Leaders Serious about DEI
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 12, 2022
Dr. Washington posits that the implementation of DEI within a company is a timeless, ever-evolving exercise. The framework presented stresses that after doing the work in making DEI central to corporate culture, Sustainability, the 5th step, requires reflection and flexibility in setting new targets or modifying dated ones. After all, if society as an entity continues to evolve, so must our companies, especially when we spend most of our waking hours before retirement working for these companies. In short, this read is a no-brainer for those committed to DEI. However, Dr. Washington doesn't posture as an elitist on the subject. She also shares her own lived experience with DEI from an early age. Dr. Washington said it right; DEI is a Journey and it is Necessary. Be patient, but committed to this journey and you'll see the results. Read it, apply it, and read it again. If this works for you, thank Dr. Washington and share your experiences with your community.

Dr. Ella F. Washington has always been passionate about DEI so I was super excited to learn she was writing a book backed by Harvard Business Review. I’ve attended several events where I’ve heard her speak and have left inspired and more knowledgeable about the positive impacts targeted DEI efforts can make on an organization.

As a business owner, DEI is a focus at the top of my list. I am committed to retaining top talent, creating and maintaining an authentic work environment and constantly working toward impactful organizational changes. I know this book will help guide me in the right direction.

10/10 would recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Read
Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on November 10, 2022
A sense of belonging is both a universal human need and a major motivator. Employees perform to their full potential when they feel accepted and celebrated for their authentic selves. A Necessary Journey is a guide to creating inclusive workplaces. The book provides case studies and actionable advice that leaders can take to make employees feel comfortable and capable within an organization.

What I loved about the book is it acknowledges that change is hard, but necessary. The global landscape is ever-shifting, and inclusive workplaces are the way of the future. The momentum towards more diverse companies will not slow or reverse, and tomorrow’s most successful organizations embrace this fact. Change is never easy though.
