A novella in the Sonoma series

After opening his heart to Jesus in prison, Alex Villa has left his criminal past behind him. However, his efforts to take down a gang producing meth in Sonoma have made him a target. multi-cultural romantic suspense

This was my first Camy Tang book. I'm not sure it's a good introduction to her writing because it is a novella that is set in the middle of a series. I felt like the novella length didn't give time to develop the relationship with her parents and ex-boyfriend which are key to who she is and what she yearns for. I had also hoped to find cultural differences playing a bigger part since Camy would have good insight into this world because of her multi-cultural background. The potential for this was there, but this isn't something Camy emphasized in this book. I appreciated the theme of living for God's approval first and foremost. Jane and Alex are appealing characters and it lives up to its label of "romantic suspense." This is a nice novella I enjoyed reading.

Necessary Proof by Camy Tang is full of suspense. This novella is also Christian Fiction. One of my favorite parts of the novella is Jane's struggle to relate to two men in her life. One is Derek, her boss. The other is her dad. Derek uses Jane for his career benefit. While her father constantly compares Jane to her brother. It's painful to read the father's words as he puts down any thing Jane does in her life. These two men lead Jane to believe she is unlovable. She can't believe God loves her either.

While all these emotional problems are going, Jane hooks up with Alex for a high octane chase from a Fillipino gang. This gang is involved with meth labs. Alex, a friend of the detective, is set up to look like he has shot a cop. I loved this story line too. I also loved the budding romance between Alex and Jane.

However, I did feel uncomfortable with so much written about the insides of a computer. Words like Hard Drive, Blue Tooth, etc. strained my brain. I don't feel the author needed to explain so much about the inside of the computer. It just interrupted a great story. The computer techie stuff made me lose my flow. It seemed like I had gotten lost on a bumpy road to a computer factory. This will not stop me from reaching for another Camy Tany novella.[...]

Alex Villa came out of prison a changed man and a Christian. When someone tries to make it look as if ’he's involved in criminal activity again, he’s determined to get to the bottom of who’s responsible. To do so, he needs to enlist the help of Jane Lawson, the woman who had once rejected him.

Jane had been hurt deeply when her fiancé had used her and expected her to be unethical, making it necessary for her to break the engagement. She’d even refused to date Alex in order to see him. Now Alex needs her help, and she wonders if she might have a second chance with him. But can she ever trust another man after what she’s been through?

I found the plot here to be rough and convoluted. Some things just didn’t add up to me. The characters were interesting, however, and wanted to see how things ended. It wasn’t a bad read, but it had a lot of action and twists and turns packed into a short book.

Nope, I haven't read any of the other books in this ChristFic romantic suspense series. Though there was some background that might have made more sense and some names mentioned I might have cared about if I'd read some of the preceding books, the main story here made quite enough sense on its own for me to appreciate it.

While some of the events and emotional development felt rushed, I found the story intriguing, with a fitting mix of dialogue and action, and a journey of faith runs through it. An enjoyable way to spend a relatively short amount of time.
