Phevos, without fully realizing how and most importantly why, finds himself along with his younger sister in modern-day Athens--some 2,000 years ahead of their time. The only advice his father gave them before shipping them off to an unknown world was to "follow the signs". With this single phrase as a guide and the friendship-turned-love of Xenia, a modern-day girl who is personally invested both in Phevos and his quest, the young couple embark on an exciting yet treacherous journey that will lead them to magical artifacts, feuding Gods and eventually to solving ancient puzzles that, unbeknownst to them, have shaped their very existence.

The Necklace of Goddess Athena is a fantastic novel--literaly and figuratively. I'm usually wary of time-traveling stories, but Effrosyni Moschoudi has managed to blend the ancient and modern world in such a seamless way, using the right locations, the right vernacular and character-development process, she manages to stay clear of jarring or conflicting situations. But what Ms Moschoudi's writing truly exudes is "ethos"; ethos of the kind that has been common among humans throughout history, but which you rarely see being an integral part of a plot nowadays. Also nostalgia. I don't know if it were the purity of the story's locations (Plaka is a settlement built right over the residential area of ancient Athens) the inherent goodness of her characters or the heart-warming interactions, but this is a world I'd really like to experience again. That said, I wouldn't want to downplay the book's pure fantasy moments brimming with the wrath of ancient Gods, where Ms Moschoudi's writing is at its best. Needless to say, I already look forward to this wonderful new writer's next novel.

This story is a beautifully crafted, Urban Fantasy adventure. It is refreshing with a quality descriptive writing style that transports the reader to Athens from the first page. It is what is described as a rare “Gem.”Although simplistic in nature and intent, through the expert word building the story increases in depth as the adventure takes hold. This does not race off with plots and complex characters taking you on breathless, bizarre journeys. It slowly builds up in depth with mystery and suspense, the reader in the side seat for the entire journey. So take a load of your feet, relax, and put the billy on. Sit in that soft, comfy adventure seat you have been before; and enjoy a few hours of Greek Mythology, mystery, time travel, young first love and heartfelt lasting friendships; A story for the whole family.

This is a book that has a bit of everything. Romance, Friendship, Love, Fantasy, Action, Adventure etc.
It's a marriage of different genres and yet comes together in a nice tale that will keep you turning the pages for more.
Being from Greece myself and having lived in Athens when very young the book made me homesick to say the least seeing as how I haven't seen the old country in many years and now live in the States.
I've always loved fantasy and sci-fi and love Greece, and a tale that has all those elements and is woven with artistry, love, and great care easily becomes one of my favorites. Check it out and you won't be disappointed! Looking forward to a sequel!

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
It attracted me immediately being set in Athens, a city I know and love. Moreover it has a fascinating storyline which involves time travel from ancient Greece to the present day when Efimos sends his son Phevos and his adopted daughter Daphne on a quest to Athens.
I really enjoyed the modern day story too of their friendship with orphaned brother and sister, Ksenia and Manos.
As their father's purpose is gradually revealed throughout the book, the author brings the two stories together.
The ending is superbly constructed and I only wish I had half the imagination of this talented new writer who manages to combine a good story, romance, time travel and classical history. My only regret is that there isn't more of the story set in ancient Athens. The author gives us a tantalizing glimpse and then it's back to the present day. Maybe this is something we can look forward to in the next book? Having said that, this story kept me riveted and although I really wanted to know how it ended; at the same time I didn't want it to end- a remarkable achievement!

This interestingly done fantasy features Athena and Poseidon seen through the eyes of a Greek author and is the tale of two ancient gods playing games with mortals. For me, this book is a young adult to new adult novel. It is sweetly written but has a few rough spots due to the translation—not the writer—which does not make it any way less worthy of reading. The main characters are deftly brought to life with personality and energy; and, the view of the mythological gods (which she makes come to life) is uniquely Greek. Ms. Moschoudi has a charming and level way of writing, which offers well done characterizations and beautiful descriptions of the people and places in and around Athens. The writer moves her story nicely along and leaves us with a satisfying ending. I look forward to her next book.
